Yep Nacogdoches County didn't go 'wet' until 1971 (and then only part of the county).

Neighboring Angelina County (Lufkin) not until 2006.

Until then....there were big drive-thru liquor stores at the River Bridge (county line) where all the folks from Angelina County would go.

Apple Springs would have been a pretty good drive....back then.
Yep…. and driving the old beater-Ford my college-buddy had required us to purchase 3 or 4 quarts of “bulk oil” (8-cents each) at the gas station to make the trip without the oil light coming-on. :ROFLMAO:

The one in my neck of the woods featured X rated movies as the second movie of the night when I was a kid. Becky's Drive in (Walnutport, PA). Pickup trucks, backed in with lots of blankets was the name of the game then. ;)

The drive-in is still in business today, but without the X-rated title.

Yep…. after 11PM the local Drive-In on South Park Drive (now re-named MLK-Drive) my teen-ager buddy and I would ride our bikes in the exit (avoiding the backward-pointed tire-spikes) to sit on our bikes and watch the Indians capture the rancher’s daughter and do things to her. This was before “sex education” in schools …so we had to learn the ”hard way”. :p

Got one still running, a little north of here.

It sits idle in the summer. Busy in spring and fall, though.

Summer, it's usually just too hot to enjoy it.

I'm hearing that the owners have been offered a substantial coin for the property...which doesn't surprise me. Haven't heard if they are going to sell or not. They're up in age.

There's one near Tyler but it's a porn show.
That's the only one close so we don't go there. There is a 4 screen on I45 just north of Ennis Tx we have been to but a few years back

We had two close by a long time ago, the Midway Drive-In between Goshen and Elkhart on US33, and the Starlite on old US20 at the west county line road. The Midway was torn down and a Sam's Club went in, the Starlite became a Wal-Mart.
Lots of memories of times at the Midway! My old '59 Buick had a BIG back seat.
A BIG back seat was a WONDERFUL thing in the day!
