Oil pan paint coming loose

I have a Kubota Z326 with 1400 hours that the paint on the inside of the oil pan came loose and blocked the oil pickup. Of course the engine was shot. Oil changes were meticulous at 200 hours and Mobile 1 wasused. Has anyone else had an issue like this? Kubota and the dealer are giving me the run around.

Are the insides of oil pans normally painted?

Hmmm. Looks like powder coat. That wasn't some engineers best idea.
FWIW pics of a new pan on Coleman Equipment parts page show black finish inside and out.

That should be FULLY covered under some kind of warranty and if Kubota doesn't ,simply post on the internet at every 'social media' site, contact the feds, and everyone else you can think of,especially 'engineering' sites...
Stuff like this 'irks' me. Inexcusable......period.

It's only "warranty" if the machine in question falls within the limited warranty period-2 years/2000 hours whichever comes first (IIRC). If it's more than 2 years old it's out of warranty. The only recourse would be "goodwill" and that is going to cost you as well. They don't do "goodwill" anymore, to speak of. Last time I used it, it was a 3 way shared expense between Kubota, the owner, and the dealer. The dealer's responsibility is to sell and service equipment-they do not build them, thus many times the 3 way shared expense becomes a 2-way between owner and Kubota.

That’s a fail on Kubota. Powder coating might explain why the inside was coated. Be interesting to hear their story as to how this would be the owners “fault”.

OK..not 'warranty', should be a 'RECALL then. A no time limit 'recall' same as several ones on my '97 F150 that had NO time limit. Whatever you call it, Kubota needs to acept responsibility and FIX the tractor !
If K won't fix for free, consider a lawsuit.Odds are it's not the only 'painted inside oil pan'.Smart lawyer will be able to find out how many defective oil pans were made, how many good ones, which tractor series, etc. Could even get a class action suit against Kubota.
One truck mfr put new FRAMES in old pickups under a 'recall',years ago, neighbour has his done.

Just a curiosity question. Did you buy the Kabota new? If so, then, you certainly know everything is original.

If not, who knows what somebody might have done before you purchased it? It sounds like you bought the Kubota new… So it must’ve come from the factory that way. Did you buy it new?

Someone was in that motor after factory build, they don't use black RTV on the oil pans.
So that alone will nix any factory warranty claims, unless a dealer did the work and it's documented.

I've seen 100's of oil pans and insides of motors and never seen one stripped like that.
Yes they are all painted, so is the inside of the block.
The paint is fuel and oil proof, but not solvent or stripper proof.
My best guess is that someone put a solvent in the engine or in the pan when they got into it and worked on it.

While we don’t know exactly what happened but one should be careful using powerful solvent additives like Seafoam.
I have absolutely no idea of the chemical make-up of Seafoam, but, could Seafoam have possibly caused something like that?

Here is a home brew that is very close to the Seafoam ingredients, please note that paint stripper is one of them: pale oil, isopropyl alcohol and naphtha.

It is not powder coat, it is painted. It is the same paint they use on every steel engine oil pan they produce for all the engines they manufacture.
Is it just Kubota engines that have the inside of their oil pans painted, or do many engine manufacturers do this?

Its high percentage paint the inside of their oil pans. It is not a standard paint, it was developed for coating oil vessels, pans, tanks etc.

Its high percentage paint the inside of their oil pans. It is not a standard paint, it was developed for coating oil vessels, pans, tanks etc.
I have used what may be a similar coating on both a seawall, and a large fibreglas boat hull.
It is apparently often used on municipal water towers/tanks.
It is a two part epoxy that seems to be impervious to just about everything.
The product I used is a commercial use only product called "Amerlock", and is marketed by/through the Ameron Corp......a Dutch company I believe.
Amazingly tough stuff!
