I took all that into consideration. Besides the fact I have a crease in the hood and an eletrical problem which I am working to correct, theres nothing else a new owner would need other then something to do with it. I just put brand new tires and brakes on the rear and if I have maybe a total of 8 hours of use on the tires I've done good. I do see the point of it being a used tractor and wear and tear but I mean come on its a tractor, unless you push it off a cliff its a brick shithouse as far as Im concerened. Look at how many old Ford 8n's are still plowing fields today with little to no major repairs. It's not that I'm being stingy or greedy and in no way am I claiming that mine is a pot of gold but a new owner of mine would not have a thing to worrie about unless they do something stupid or abuse the tractor. I have owned the tractor for about 8 years now and have put moderate use on it. I do not have an hour meter as it was an option to put on at the time of purchase new. I do all of my own repair work and I am an fanantic when it comes to greaseing. My father put this phrase into my head when I was a kid and it hold true today. "grease is cheap and parts are expensive" And sure a brand new one identical to mine even with a loader runs about 8 to 9 thousand. But who has that much money lyeing around today, also theres no sales tax involved in buying mine used. I have put myself in the shoes of a prospective buyer and thought about if it was me would I spend the kind of money thats being asked for. And my honest answer is yes because I know it takes ALOT to really tear up a tractor and I have the upper hand in being able to fix or repair one myself.

Funny you said say "new to a rural area". Not that I'm new, but moved from a Townhouse with ZERO land to care for, to a house with 5 acres! And although I do have a 4x4 atv to do alot of the moving, I do use a green rake!

That's why now, after 3 years, I bought a tractor. I did occur to me early on that 16 hp seems pretty small for a 1200 lb tractor. It didn't take long for me to then wonder, hmmm? What the hell did John Deere do with all of that HP in my riding mower. It dosn't do squat compared to these Kubotas.

I however, was not looking for the freshly cleaned, newly tuned machine. I was on the hunt for a bargain. One with broken things that I would have fun fixing.

Vic, You are quite the salesman, the tractor was in very nice shape though, much nicer than what is typically offered.

I don't think you are entirely correct with a lot of your statements though. I was new to rural land and new to tractors, but I did my research and figured out what the least I could get by with and searched for it. I have 36 acres by the way, and have cattle.

One thing you touched on is that the market is saturated, and that brings prices down, the economy brings them down too. I suggest anyone that won't settle for selling at a bargain should wait a few years, or you are most likely in for a lot of aggrevation.

I've watched over priced tractors for over a year and they just don't move. I've made reasonable offers on several and they wouldn't budge, and they are still sitting on them. I argued with a lady over a spreader, she wanted close to full price for a used one, I offered her half price and she wouldn't take it, I did find someone that would though. I just don't see where people think used farm equipment doesn't loose it's value, makes no sense.

You got a good deal Sam, and you can get parts and service for it at any Kubota dealer and you can buy Kubota attachments for it if you want. It also is worth more on trade-in because it is a recognized Kubota model. I am often amazed just how much people pay for grey market equipment! Often as much as they could buy a new tractor with warranty from their local Kubota dealer!

I knew it would be a matter of time before someone had some real reasoning on this post. THANK YOU VIC. I do have all the manuals and never thought to mention that in posting an ad. I have mentioned before I would deliver free within 100miles of my home town, thought that might sweeten the deal. I am still not sure on the paint idea. Yeah some people want a brand new showroom quality tractor in a used package, but me I prefer to see the wounds and battle scars of anything I purchase used just to get an idea of how its been taken care of and maintained. I suppose my mindset was on a purchaser who's familar with tractors and know's a thing or two about them. I would be more then happy to take to a buyers home for a testdrive and go over the tractor with them. It never occured that some people would compair a sub-compact tractor to the Sears Crapsman!

Just wanted to add this to the conversation from my own experience.
When I started looking to buy a Kubota BX1500, I started looking only at used. One call to a lending rep. at a bank told me I couldn't get financing for it because it was used. I actually could get financing at a ridiculously high rate.
Kubota was offering 3 years 0% financing. No contest. I bought new, just because of the financing issue.

I had a used one that I could not sell. It was a 1983 B6100 with rear finish mower in Mint Condition. I finally ended up selling it for $2200.00. I had it for 2 years.

I have found out that Kubota now offeres insurance coverage for tractor's and if I remember correctly its offered on both new and used equipment. Kinda like full coverage insurance for your car.

Eric, you are correct. When I bought my BX last year, (2009). I got my insurance right with the tractor.

Also, I am 6"8" and around 450lbs. I am NOT your average sized man. I have absolutely no problems sitting in a sub-compact. I thought I was going to have to get a "B" series so I could fit and be comfortible. Thing is, I am very comfortible in my BX! Even when I have many hours of seat time.

Im built like you are 6ft4 and 282, problem is my B6100 is a gear transmission always haveing to work both legs all the time, I need to build a bracket for my seat and get it higher in the air and create me some legroom.

Just to give you something to compare. This past fall I sold my B6100 4WD w/factory plow, 4 brand new R1 tires on the tractor and 4 brand new turf tires mounted on brand new Kubota rims for $3,100. I was the second owner, had all the original books & records and it was in showroom condition considering it's age. I had it advertised for $4,200 initially and kept lowering the price until it sold. The guy who bought it ended up trading it in to a Kubota dealer for a larger model and they put it on their lot, minus the turf tires but with a 4' BH for $5,000. I haven't seen it on their lot any more so I assume it sold.

Wow thats just crazy how that old tractor ended up. Kind of gives me a thought, perhaps I can talk to the dealer and see if they would be willing to do a consignment for me. Or is that even worth while thinking about. I figure the dealers are looking at the all mighty dollar and would much rather sell a brand new unit and earn more money over trying to show my used tractor. What do some of you all think about consignments?

Oh and I just thought about this. I have been back and forth for a while about selling it as a package deal with 4 attachments to go along with it. I have a grading box, grader blade, finishing mower and aerator all 4 foot in size. But what I cant decide to do is let all the toys go with the tractor or hang onto them since they are paid for and all I'm looking to do is get a larger tractor with a FEL. Id like to ideally get either a L175 or L185, but I have an erie feeling that 4ft attachments might not be large enough to go behind either one of those 2 tractors. As for me I do landscaping as a side job to earn extra income, so I'm looking to be able to move material faster and more efficiently then what I am capable of as of now. I have no complaints with what my little B6100 can do. I'd just like to be able to complete a job in a little less time then what I am now and move on to the next contract. Ok I feel like I was rambeling on, sorry about that.

Remember that a dealer has to ask more for a used machine because they have to stand behind it and make possible repairs for whatever time period they specify. Having one sell yours on consignment is good for you because of the increased exposure but usually bad for the dealer because even though they might explain to whoever buys it that it's not their machine, if something goes wrong the customer usually looks to them. But it's certainly worth a try.

The best thing about my BX 25 was the easy no intrest financing. That's your problem it's easier to buy new due to financing

Wow!! It took me until page 5 to realize this is a 3 year old thread! About the time you were writing this my L185DT blew its radiator neck off. I went to my dealer, and found out the radiator and everything else on the tractor is obsolete! So I sold mine to a neighbor cheap (I soldered the neck back on), and got an L3200. Point is, unlike that Ford 8n tractor mentioned in the beginning of this thread, parts on old Kubotas can be few and far between. Shop work is expensive. And you can get pretty good deals on better equipped, newer (10-15 year old) tractors that still do have parts available.
No way I'd buy a 30 year old, obsolete 2WD tractor for $4 grand, Not even Vic's show room condition one. Yes, we all know it can be a lot more tractor than my Cub Cadet, but we also know, maybe not.
Since I sold, I have joined this forum. I figure I was probably a grand low on my price; used parts are sometimes available, and I missed out on all the fun of a major restoration, that I don't really have time for. No regrets about the new L3200, however.
