Thanks everyone for your helpful advice.
I removed the main positive wire from the starter & battery, cleaned it and the 'jumper' wire that goes from the solenoid to the main starter. Then removed the ground wire from behind the control panel and cleaned it as well. I used a brillo pad to scuff all of the electrical connections, sprayed them with electrical contact cleaner, made them nice and shiny. Honestly they weren't that bad to begin with and (to me) looked like they had been replaced before.
The battery was replaced with a brand new one ($250!!), and I also used another battery in parallel for good measure. I double checked all the fuel lines and positions of the control levers to make sure it was in neutral and getting fuel. I held down the glow plug for a solid minute. And then it started right up instantly!!
