Kubota L2502: More than just a pretty new face?

Everything that I’ve seen, read and heard had me believing the improvements and updates to the L2502 were mostly cosmetic, comfort and convenience based. But, there’s more to it than that.

The L2502 has a new updated D1703 engine and Kubota has moved and changed many items under the new hood. First and foremost, the L2502 has a D1703BM-DI-EF04 engine. The previous L2501 has a D1703-M-DI-E4B. I’ll have to investigate further to see if there’s any internal changes to the new engine but, on the outside, it has a new diesel injection pump, they’ve moved to oil indicator dipstick to the left (or drivers side) of the engine, the air cleaner assembly has been moved down closer to the battery, there is a fuse box mounting in front of the radiator, and the fuel tank is completely new and repositioned on the right (passenger side) of the engine compartment.

It even has a hydraulic oil dipstick, no more sight glass!!!

Based on my original conversations with my dealer, I was really surprised to see so many changes to the L2502 when compared to the L2501. He was too, lol.

Anyway, I’m sure there’s more but, I thought I’d share the information I’ve recently learned.

Interesting information, and certainly more than expected.

I'm amused by the driver's side/passenger side descriptions on a tractor!! Especially being someone from a country that drives on the left.

Sometimes folks get confused with the position of the right/left. Is right/left referring to standing in front of the tractor? Or, is right/left referring to sitting in the operator’s seat? In an effort to clarify, I add the driver and passenger. ;)

I certainly wasn’t expecting so many changes. Pretty interesting and makes me wonder if more components were changed on the L3302/L3902.

Excellent review of the changes in your first post, but where is this heading? Are you planning on an upgrade to your L2501? ;) On second thoughts, are you figuring out how to add a turbo kit to the L2502?

If you get a chance, perhaps you could help me figure out why the M6060 has 66.4 hp (gross) and the M7060 has 74.3 hp (gross) but both tractors have the same E-CDIS, V3307-CR-TE4 4 cylinder engine. :ROFLMAO:

I see the damn fuel fill is in the same spot.

That's my biggest complaint.

Even though I have never had a need to use them, the brake pedals being on the "starboard" side is a close 2nd.

When we are in the boat, I love giving directions using port and starboard.....hahahahah...

Nothing pisses the old lady off more than me yelling "No damn it, I said the starboard side!!!"

It's comical as hell to see her run from side to side all flustered.

Yes, I am planning on purchasing an L2502 at some point. Yes, I am planning on Turbocharging it. It just won't be quite as simple as swapping my current L2501 Turbo Kit over to the new tractor.

Why M6060 & M7060 have different gross HP when they have the same engine? Easy. ECU programming. Same as L3301 (L3302) & L3901 (L3902).

Why M6060 & M7060 have different gross HP when they have the same engine? Easy. ECU programming. Same as L3301 (L3302) & L3901 (L3902).
That's what I figured, but was wondering if they had different turbos, different fuel injectors, etc. It shouldn't be too hard to find a tuner who can fix that. :D

Just get a fuel tank caddy with a pump and fill hose and quit messing around with lifting jugs

Port has 4 letters. Just like left. Port is on the left (looking towards the front of the boat, like a normal person would....)

In our family I'm the one who's unable to remember right vs left. My significant other is very reliable on it. I'm the one that gets the constant "the other left" comments. I think it's because she's very right handed, whereas I'm mostly ambidextrous. That's my story anyway.

I looked for a Pic to post but couldn't find a decent one of massey Ferguson tractors.
A customer/friend of mine has several.
The plastic gas tank is down low behind the loop step. The stupidity placement I'd ever seen.

I always think of the word POSH when discussing port and starboard. Posh was once reputed to originate with the upper class from Britain who'd take a steamship out to India, Africa etc. The story went that the cabins on the port side were in the shade on the way out, and the cabins on the starboard side were in the shade on the way home and so they were more expensive. The more expensive tickets had the acronym POSH on them to indicate Port Out Starboard Home. It was a great story if nothing else, and I've never had a problem remembering which was which ever since. The other thing I always remember is that the port side light is red and so is Port from Portugal which is a wonderful fortified red wine.

Apparently "Is there any red port left in the bottle" is the mnemonic to remember all of it in one go. Port, left, red.

I guess moving the fuel tank to the passenger (starboard) side of the machine made it almost mandatory to add the fender grab handle back to that side of the machine.

I would like to know more about the fuel injector when that information becomes available. When I talked to my dealer a couple of months ago, he was pretty sure it would still be mechanical.

Has anyone seen one in person yet?

You're welcome!

The pictures posted here are mine so I've definitely seen the L2502 in person.

The injection pump is still mechanical, however, it is completely new. I need to do more research on the pump itself but, at this time I don't know if it's better, the same or worse than the L2501.
