I'm new to the forum and have been looking at the posts on hydraulic systems for my l3200. was wondering if there is a difference in adjusting the pressure using the shims or could I merely loosen the lock nut and adjust the screw to raise the pressure. seems much easier to adjust the screw to the desired pressure while tractor running at 2500 rpm with psi gauge mounted?

Depends on tje relief valve. Not all can be adjusted that wsy. Are you talking about the tractor or a loader valve?

Thanks for the reply. The tractor relief valve.

What lock nut are you referring to? Shim are the only way that I know of to raise the psi in the hydraulic system.

I am looking at the parts diagram for the L3200 relief valve. No screw or locknut just a plug and shims.

Dan
Yes. I see now what you are talking about for the tractor PRV. so i will use the shims for that one. On the BH77 the PRVs for the swing and boom controls it has screws/locknut. would you use shims on that or could they be adjusted with the locknut and screw? The backhoe will not lift the back wheels off the ground when fully extended. I have swapped both the top and bottom PRVs but the problem did not follow the swap which has led me to believe it may be the overall system pressure which could be low. Have not checked the tractor pressure yet just in the troubleshooting phase right now. Overall system psi is my next step.

thanks for the reply 85Hokie. in troubleshooting mode right now. Old Hokie has replied as well so I'm trying not to spend crazy money on relief valves unless I have to.

The tractor relief sets the max for all systems in the tractor. Measire that at the outlet block.

Next up is the Inlet relief in the loader valve. All it can to is lower the pressure for it and all down stream devices. Measure that at the power beyond port on the loader valve.

The backhoe inlet relieg is next. All it can do is lower what it is getting from the loader. That relief controls the hoe pressure - measure that at one of the work ports.

Before doing anything you need to understand the system and get some actual pressure measurements.

The reliefs on the individual valves are port reliefs. Dont mess with them unless you know how they work and how to set them. They are shock control and overload devices not working pressure devices.

Gottit. thanks. Was just curious about the screw/locknut vs shim situation. Would you even use shims on a relief valve that has the screw adjustment? If so, why?

working on system psi measurements next. Then will consider path forward from there. will continue troubleshooting next weekend. Thanks for all Ya'lls help. Really appreciate it.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the shims. 0.1mm 0.2mm and 0.4mm for the lengths. What about the outside diameter and the inside diameter

I found the diameters of the shims
Outside diameter is 11.9mm
Some shims have holes some do not
So inside diameter is 5.15mm
