50hr service-BX-*AFTER* replacing hydraulic fluid...

I only just got the WSM last night (and don't have it with me to study)

I gave the 50hr service a quick look and didn't see anything around what to do AFTER the filter and fluid was replaced.

The only reason I ask is that I saw recently on BIFFS EQUIPMENT youtube channel, he started his BX in neutral, ran it a while, then jacked up the rear wheels, and in 2WD (RWD) ran the wheels back and forth to (presumably?) lighten the initial load on the pump and transmission after a fluid change.

Is any of this necessary?

If I had a normal sized garage, I'd probably just do it - whatever - but my garage is miniscule....with almost no room to move around whatsoever, so jacking up the rear with the machine inside is not trivial.

Also, even though I didn't deep dive, I've never seen this mentioned in the OPM, the WSM or any Youtube videos I've ever watched wrt the 50hr service on the BX.

Is BIFF just being overly cautious or is there some merit to his madness?

When you change the fluids - there could be air in the system.

Running the machine for a bit will push the fluid throughout the system and push the air back to the holding tank.

AS for jacking up and whatnot ......... can't say I would be doing that.

As for cycling the hydraulics - I would do that a bit , air could enter the lines and raising and lowering the bucket and 3 point will simply push fluid through and air out.

You really need to squirrel away some Loonies to build something larger (and heated).
IT's complicated, but yes, it's TINY. I think about 15.25' x 16'....plus I have tools, junk, motorcycle
-AND- my tractor in there.

On the plus side...the floor *IS* heated. Best thing I ever did.

Negative side. No room to work. (except on my bike)

I could pull a small car in, but no room for a floor jack (handle) or to even open a car door and squeeze out !

The BX gets the fluid replaced at 50?? Thought it was just the filters.
Either way, on a hydro trans, once the level is put back to the Full range just back it outside and cycle all the hydraulics to full extension/ retraction and drive it back in to recheck the level. No reason to jack one up I can think of.

Well, as I said in another post (you may/may not have seen it) I am old enough to have grown up with Imperial/SAE measurements before we "went metric" so I often think in both units, though some make more sense to me now after 40+ years or whatever as metric.....ie: When I think about temperature, it's been so long dealing with Celsius, I think in those units (not Fahrenheit) ........but when I measure shorter lengths, it's inches and feet, but driving in a car, it's kilometers.

Us older/oldish guys in Canada have been confused our whole life dealing with 2 systems (or maybe it's just me, lol)

Yeah....I am not sure, so that's why I asked the question (see the 2 screenshots I posted). Who knows.
I bought the stuff already, so I am going to swap it and waste $90 in fluid, but I'll sleep easy I guess.

It was the whole "jacking it up and running wheels" that I was curious about. BIFF seems to know what he's doing, (for most things) but I had never heard of this before - ever !

I know for ZTRs, you have to jack up the rear end and bleed the system by running it forward and reverse unloaded. I think the same could be accomplished with a tractor by moving the loader joystick and 3pt to purge and then driving it shortly. I would imagine Kubota would add these steps to the manual like Ferris does for their Hydro Gear axles if it was a requirement.

I have oft pondered when Canada will switch to the metric clock.:D

My WSM ([ssued 4, 2017a) shows transmission oil to be changed at 50 hours, with the filter changed and the screen cleaned. (Section 2, page 15)

The WSM also says (Section 2, page 25) "Do not operate the tractor immediately after changing the transmission fluid. Run the engine at medium speed for a few minutes to prevent damage to the transmission."

I've changed the fluid/filter in my BX2360 3 times, I think. 50 hours, ~ 200 and again at ~400 (filter had a dent in it, figured do the whole job).

I have run it a while, but haven't jacked it up.

FWIW, the HST whine has decreased each time I've changed fluid.

Interesting. I wonder the differences in transmissions. Some do, some don't get it at the initial 50. Good thing we changed my neighbors at 200 😬. Maybe I should ask if he has ever changed the engine oil.

After changing the hydraulic oil and filter on any BX series tractor, you start the engine letting it idle for a minute or two. Then with the Range lever in neutral, depress the hydrostat control pedal fully in both directions for a few seconds each. Stop the engine, recheck, and top off the hydraulic fluid.

There is absolutely no reason to jack up or even move the tractor, the gears, and shafts do not need to be bled or purged. :whistle:
