As the title says, has anyone used the pto setup on a B6000 to power a 12kw Generator (PTO style Gen) Thanks!
thanks, yep - I think I just figured that out but did notice that gens can produce current in either direction, either way, I lack the HP to get a 12kw to produceIt's not going to work for you your PTO spins the opposite direction and you don't have the PTO HP required
I like the idea of using my tractor's pto for the rare power outage and need the grunt of a diesel for a 15k and up generator -unfortunately my little 6000 does not have enough grunt!AND….using a tractor to spin a generator is an expensive way to make electricity. A dedicated portable generator is a better method, IMO.
A tractor PTO driven generator avoids another engine to maintain but the kind of weather that creates the need for a generator often creates the need for a tractor with loader/blade/snow blower and it can't do both at once. The tractor also needs to have plenty of horsepower and a fast response governor to provide clean stable power under rapidly changing load.AND….using a tractor to spin a generator is an expensive way to make electricity. That’s because people who spend their money on inferior things….are reluctant to publicize their decision was a poor one. I’ve had both, and consider the portable/dedicated generator more useful and more efficient. It’s a bit like having a “leatherman” type “multi-tool”…. or a toolbox with proper tools which are dedicated to specific tasks. The latter is always better. Here comes another PTO vs standby generator debate with 99% of the people speaking against PTO not owning one.
^^^^^Yes, if your outages are rare, and of short duration. Otherwise, a dedicated unit is a better choice.
Some of us live where they are too often and too long for anything but a dedicated usage.

Another one of your no clue babbling posts. Just because you don’t like something, doesn’t make it the right way to do something, in fact, it may not be the correct way. Leatherman’s are a great tool to carry in your pocket with lots of uses. PTO generators work great and are used by many for lots of hours and have been for the last 80 years. Not everyone is so tied to having 24/7 electricity that they need instantaneous backup. Not everyone is afraid to actually use their tractors to run a generator like many on here. Sure, some people need an automatic backup generator because of frequent power outages or the lack of ability to hook up a generator. But for only a very few, infrequent power outages, a PTO generator works well without having to maintain a second engine. Everyone’s needs are different and there is no need to talk down to those who have different needs or opinions on the subject than your own. That’s because people who spend their money on inferior things….are reluctant to publicize their decision was a poor one.
