WiFI extending question

I currently have five EEROs at the house. They cover the house without an issue. The problem I have is my gate is about 500-600 feet from the house. Although I do get a usable signal to the the gate for the opener and Ring doorbell, I would like to improve upon that to make it more reliable and sound.

So for all of you IT guys.....

Is there a 'directional' extender that I can use WITH the existing EEROs?

Is there a tip or trick I can use to get a better signal?

do you have an electrical supply (outlet) nearer to your gate? If so, I've had great luck with powerline adaptors. They use your electrical wiring to take the place of ethernet connections. They've been very reliable for me.

I use Ubiquiti stuff at home. It works really well. They have a few options that might be helpful...
A pair of Nano's to shoot out to your gate. I use them at one of the Race Tracks I do T&S at for the starter station and for the printer over at driver info.
If the stuff at the gate has enough transmit power you could also try a LR access point.

If you have power at the gate then power line adapters could be an option.

I use tplink stuff for outside. unsure about compatibility with existing though. quite happy with it

I also use an Ubiquiti POE outdoor antenna. Was a little chore getting the Ethernet cable outside to where I wanted to mount antenna, and a bit of tech setup to configure it as an extender on my same wifi network, but I’m not too tech savvy. But in the end I’m happy with it. I use it to monitor a wifi camera which is solar powered, and located about 400 feet away.

What you need for that distance is a point to point setup...which would require 2 antennas (one on each end), an access point at the remote station, and a way to power it (I recommend AGM battery, solar panel, charge controller, inverter). EEROS doesnt offer point to point within its lineup, but you can still use Unifi antennas to create that bridge.

Just remember P2P is not a wifi connection...it is a wireless connection between those 2 antennas. Basically as if you were running ethernet from your house up to the gate.

Here is a link to several from Amazon. One thing to think about when you use these is both ends of the power line must be on the same electric circuit breaker box. If the the electrical connection at your gate is on a different circuit breaker box than the one in your house, most of these will not carry the Ethernet signal through two different circuit breaker boxes.

I use these to get a Ethernet connection to my garage and they work very well because my garage is on the same circuit breaker box as the house.

I have several TP Link power adaptors (but a bit older now) that have worked very well. You plug an ethernet cable into them and then into your device (if it has ethernet option). You could also plug an EERO into it to extend your mesh network.

They say that your home wiring needs to be in a single panel for the circuit that you want to use. I'm not sure if that is still the case anymore.

I use a TP OMADA, to cover 1/4 mile at our place.
It works great for mowing and Pandora for tunes.

ALot of the power line adapters need to be on the same CIRCUIT as the Access Point (usually a router) just be sure you consider this setup.

If you have power to the gate, PtP is the way to go for the most reliable service.

I would try and power line adapter first, see if you can get it to work. If not return and go PtP.

go hardwire : rent a trencher, toss 1" conduit (aka black poly water pipe ) ,run CAT6 cables through it.
Kinda curious as to why you didn't do this when you ran power feed to the gate ?

I haven't heard of that requirement before. Mine are on different circuits, same panel. No issues.

The issue isn't really being on the same circuit. It's being on the same side of the transformer split.

You may see degraded performance if on different legs, and in some cases it might not work.

yes, PLC modems require to be on the same leg or phase of the power feed but you can 'bridge' the 2 phases/legs,depending on whose 'chips' or technology you're using. This 'PLC' means Power Line Communications and NOT Programmable Logic Controller.
