Around here, Autozone will take motor oil and trans fluid, but not anti-freeze. :(

It's "hazardous waste", so nobody will touch it.

So people dump it. Yeah, that turned out well.

The law of unintended consequences.

Wait....the coolant is hazardous but the oil is not? LMAO! Guess the radiator has a prop 65 warning in it in Cali.
Of note- I don't know anyone that uses ethylene glycol (the bad stuff) in their cooling systems any more. Propylene glycol is pretty much what's it now. It doesn't taste great but it hasn't killed me or the dog yet. Still have mice in the shop too 😆

Anyone wanna guess what I actually did in response to the evidence?

Begin wagering now, plz.
The time period allotted for wagering has now expired.

The "drain and fill" procedure is the correct answer and was the one employed.

Congratulations to the winners.

Its even scarier when you see some things these people do to vehicles that are on the roads 😱
Try being a road mechanic for an equipment rental company. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Those same people rent equipment. 😱😱😱😱😱

For the longest time, they used to get paid for waste oil and hydraulic oil from the collectors. So accepting waste oil and hydraulic oil was free money for the autoparts stores.

I had two separate containers at the shop. One for waste oil that I was paid for. The other was for antifreeze or anything else that I had to pay to haul off.

They did away with that about 10 years ago and now charge for all collections. Once they did that, everything started going in the same tote.

Sort of back on subject. How do you dispose of old coolant? Some places take used oil, but used coolant?
Check with your local township/city/county.

We have free local household hazardous waste drop off events during the warm months here. I can also drop off at the dump HHW depot. They take coolant, oils, filters, batteries, CFLs,...

I've always had separate coolant and oil waste dumps at work.
Granted the brake fluid goes in the oil dump usually, not with the coolant.

NOTE: Use of PREmixed (50/50) antifreeze guarantees best metal protection.... just make certain all residual fluids are purged from system first.
Adding water dilutes the additives in the coolant.
Best metal protection is pure antifreeze.
Adding water (50/50 mix) is used to improve cooling and freeze prevention, not to help prevent corrosion.

I'd have stuck the plug back where it came from and dumped some new coolant in it and carried on!
ME TOO!

I have owned water cooled engines for 75 years.
Have often needed coolant freeze protection, but have NEVER used distilled water.
No corrosion issues/failures to date, .....but only 75 years experience! :(

In Canada that way for sure!
(I have lived in Canada).
In USA....not everywhere!
