A couple of weeks ago when blowing snow with my new LX2963 I managed to tangle up with some gravel and not break a shear pin. Been aware of the issues that Snowman7 has had with his blower I decided to remove the shear pin on the fan. To my dismay the impeller was virtually impossible to spin on the shaft. After tapping a bit with a hammer, I was able to turn it maybe 5 deg. Been hesitant to go any farther and not wanting to damage the gear box I called my dealer. They picked it up last week and now have it repaired. My concern is that many more of these blowers could have the same issue. I suggest that anyone who has this blower or similar should remove the shear pin (if never broken) to see if the fan spins freely. The fan rides on two oilite bushings.
I am grateful that I have a great dealer who has always been there for me for almost 40 years.

I am unhappy to report I have broken that bolt several times and dozens of the other shear bolts. I am waiting to get the lathe going and mass produce those fricking bolts for my own use.

They warrantied my blower but your issue was the same as mine. Maybe the 1/8” of orange paint combined with the grade 5 has the strength of a grade 8, lol

They ended up completely disassembling the auger and fan assembly. They apparently had to do considerable work to free it up. At least now the auger end bearings are also facing forward for easier greasing. Will have some paint to touch up in the spring.

Two positive outcomes.
