Hello OTT members and visitors!

Very happy to announce that we have two additional moderators here on the site to help keep things tidy and in shape. Please welcome 85Hokie and whitetiger as your new mods here on OTT. Both are long-time and experienced OTT members, joining in 2013 and 2011 respectively, wow! Really happy to see these respected and veteran members join North Idaho Wolfman as our day-to-day moderation crew. The site is a little bigger and busier these days so extra moderation help is certainly appreciated to keep OTT free from spam, on topic and friendly and welcoming for all. It's a lot of work that these volunteers put in!

Please join me in welcoming your new moderators and giving them a high-five!

Odd. I would have bet good money that either of them was smarter than that.

;-)

Oh well, here's wishing you thick skins and here's your high five: 🙌

Thank you both for helping out as moderators.

And glad I have never had any “problems“ with you in the past so hopefully no black marks against my user account (I hope anyway)!

Congrats guys. Remember, do not take anything personally. Best of luck!
"do not take anything personally"

Sorta impossible to do, when/if someone is attacking personally.

As a mod, you have to 'let it go'. Keep an eye on the big picture. Does BobFromNoWhere who makes a poor comment really matter? A common rule is 'Attack the topic, not the poster'. As a moderator, it is a rule that largely guides me. Arguing about oil, phtttttt who cares really. Threaten my wife or me, yeah, a problem exists. Actually, fairly cut and dry.

As a mod, I always strived to not be noticed. (I used to moderate another forum)
Many were surprised to find out that I was a mod, as I always tried to work in the background, with PMs to the offending or quarreling parties. I would often close a thread until we could attempt a fix, then reopen it if we could work something out.
I always gave them the opportunity to correct/edit their posts or apologize if they offended.
I found that many times posters offended someone without meaning to, but then the offended party quickly slapped back viciously, because they misunderstood the original poster's intent or language.
Then the fight was on.
(no tone, facial expression, or body language over the net)
Often there was no soothing the parties involved; in those cases I was able to pass my recommendations and the buck to the owners, who did all the timeouts or bans.

It is often a frustrating & thankless job, so thanks to all three of you and Mr. K for your work & conributions to this great forum.

(there, that should get me a couple of free passes somewhere down the road) ;):p:LOL::ROFLMAO:
