Got it running. What a relief but feel pretty stupid... Not sure what was making the noise. Glow plugs working... running great.

FYI: That doesn't have an alternator it's got a dyno, big difference between the two.
They put out AC not DC, if you see that it's not charging it's very likely has fried the regulator, which is located under the dash.
Also note there is no water pump on these engines.

Thanks for the info. I do know about the dyno. Did not know that it was ac however. My manual refers to it as an alternator. I have not checked the voltage yet but on my list of todos.

Yea the manual fibs, it's a dyno.

And what did you do to get it running?

How long did it run for?

What was the noise?

Curios minds would like to know!

Sorry about the delay in getting back.
Yes, got it running. Running and sounds good.
Not sure what the noise was, maybe something rubbing or hitting the fan???

Once I got the battery cables on right, the glow plugs worked and it started right up. I put new cables on it...
