I ordered chains for my rear wheels on my b2601. I was quoted 420$ CAD for the chains. Pretty good I think since it's about half of what canadachains.ca wants. I'm still waiting for the dealer to receive them. I'm not sure I'll need spacers but I decided to add some in my order just to make sure. But the dealer quoted me 488$ just for the set of spacers. That sounds pretty steep for 2 metal rings.

Is that what it usually costs?

The dealer is just trying to make up for the good deal he gave you on the chains! :p
Have you tried to research any other sources?

No, not yet. I figured I'd ask here if the price is fair first before doing that kind of leg work.
I'm still hopping it won't be required.

I did a bit of "leg work" for you!
www.bro-tek.com
In New Brunswick !
Company has a great reputation!
This is quite likely the same source that your dealer is using!

1-1/2" spacers (SET) # 60160455 = $250 (USD?)- maybe $338CAD?
2" spacers (SET) # 60160297 = $280 (USD?)- maybe $383CAD?
3" spacers (SET) # 60160454 = $320 (USD?)- maybe $438CAD?

They are in stock, so if you order today,.... and they ship via Canada Poste🤮..... you might get them by June! 😂

Hey thanks for that. I was trying to find a part number but that website lists things by tractor models. Definitely easier.

So the prices are similar to what the dealer charges then. I guess it's fair.

Pricing would seem to kinda depend on which thickness spacers you want.
I would think it worth a call to Bro-Tek, (207-385-8389) to get the prices and information directly......from "the horses mouth".
That 207 area code confuses me, because it is a Maine area code, and I know that Bro-Tek is near Moncton, NB .
I just tried calling that number, with no success.
Perhaps E-Mail is a better way?

Take a look at several before you decide.

Looks like the "Bora" wheel spaces (made in USA) for your B2601 are priced a bit lower, but having lived in Canada, I know that shipping, tax, and duty, would very likely drive the price well above the Canada made Bro-Tek shipped price.

is the backside all 'neat and tidy' ? if so....

...you could put the 'arm' through the next 'free link' to the left, then tighten it up and lock.
I did that with my 'blower/rider',about 10 years ago. Grabbed the wrong chains,in a hurry, said, goodenuf, still haven't replaced them.

The backside is also very loose. I'm not sure if it's me doing it wrong, or if the chain size is off. Any tips for identifying who's fault it is? I'm hoping it's me, I don't wanna have to wait longer to order new chains. Or maybe I'm expected to cut them?

You need to remove 1 or 2 cross links so that you can shorten up the chains. Most tire chains are made to fit a few tire sizes so if you have the tire size that’s on the small end of the range, you need to shorten them to make it fit. To remove a cross link, pry open the ends and take them off. Do them 1 at a time until the chains fit. Also, before you make that modification, make sure the tires are at proper pressure so that they are at their full size.

Thanks. That worked. I took off 2 cross links. It loosened up a bit after rolling with them. I guess I can fix that with a bungee.

The good news is that I didn't need spacers!

Yep, late to the party but BAP's advice was wise and good as you found.

Any chains I've bought have been loose. After 10 years, I took 2 more stringers out this last Fall. They had stretched a lot.

Great, glad it worked out. Using a bungee stretched across the outside is a good idea. I use one long enough that I can make a triangle with it. Hitch it in 1 spot, go across the other side and wrap it around the side chain and end up hooking across from that so that when you are done it makes a triangle. Works great.
