This happened twice in one week, 2 different companies. Ebay and Bobcat USA.

I purchased some special paint on ebay for $53, I added to cart, checked out. Im a regular shopper so all my contact info and CC number where there. Next day I get an email from ebay saying, hey you have items in your cart, come back to pay. So I thought maybe i didnt go all the way through the buy process the first time. Went to my ebay and sure enough there is a quart of paint in my cart. So i go ahead and finish out the transaction.

Then i get a confirmation email and then not long later shipping info. Alls good.
Then a day later i get a conformation email and a shipping email. Different orders, same product, so now i have 2 coming.
Thought this was just a glitch in the matrix HOWEVER

A couple days goes by and i bought some parts from Bobcat USA, go through checkout, get a confirmation email, get shipping info...THEN I get an email saying i still have items in my cart and need to check out. Went to site and sure enough cart was full of the stuff i had purchased the day before. I didnt fall for it though.

Wondering if this is some new tactic companies are using to get a double purchase? Some issue on my end?

Just my guess, two major websites, both showing the same issue, more than likely something going on with your machine. I doubt that they would be trying this intentionally.

I would say an update or maybe a privacy setting or both is causing the cache not to clear properly. Yet, do nothing based on my assumptions, I'm just making some guesses and will be curious what the tech heads that really know what they are talking about has to say.

It's a cache issue, it's not clearing them out on the sale.
Look for system updates that are hung up.

I log into Amazon and usually find 4 or 5 items in the cart. 😱😱😱😱 But I think I'll be in for some knuckles if I change the password and lock my wife out of the account 😅😅🤣😅🤣😅🤣😅

I think it's more likely it's Ebay or Amazon software causing the issue. They "remind" people all of the time. A few months ago, I bought three of the same thing. I got a prompt an item was in my cart ... still. Keep in mind that testing isn't really done any more by most companies, so if the coder makes a mistake, it's there until the customers complain.

Of course, many Amazon purchases are free returns. So, that's what I did. Funny thing is I didn't like it, so I returned 3 of them. :D. Ebay is the opposite. If you buy something, it's sometimes not worth the effort to do a return by the time you ship it back. The exception being an incorrect listing and then Ebay takes care of you.

Interesting that most of the larger Ebay storefronts are on Amazon with different rules for Amazon.

Well my windows 10 and firefox where up to date and no hangups that i can see on any updates. I didnt clear cache or cookies yet, but i did order something else from ebay and i have not gotten a notification that i still have items in my cart. I also order a LOT from Amazon and have never had this problem with them.

I use W10 and Firefox.
In Firefox, you can setup the 'clear history' to NOT clear cookies. Kinda important unless YOU remember all your passwords to the sites you visit (like banks and merchants ..).
You can also delete any cookie you want, even SAVE the ones you MUST have ( again banks and merchants). Also you can KEEP 'active logins' active...kinda important too.

Getting the email is interesting to say the least. Cookies/ cache/ background data doesn't explain that. I could see you going back to the site and having it in your cart again, but not an automated email saying it is. That said, I wouldn't put it past them to send an email based on past purchases. Then if you click the link in the email it automatically adds those items to your cart.
I have my browsers to delete all that junk and stuff when I close it.

Ironically, Walmart customers are complaining about their credit cards getting double charged. Walmart is blaming a third party.

E-bay is getting to be a jungle...Buyer is always wrong? I purchased a C cell MagLite after a long wait I get AAA Maglite. Try to reason with seller no luck! Called CC company to resolve.

One way to get the email is...

you go online, fill your cart, place order, whir, buzz, clik, clik, time passes...
the 'cart contents' isn't 'flagged as picked and shipped' ...
so the 'helpful reminder' computer sends you an email saying 'these are in your cart'......hint,hint, time to buy them.....

I can see a lot of online shops using 'canned' software from ONE programming company... a 'fill in the blanks' app and NOT paying for 100% inhouse coding.

This could explain it.
