In an American court, you have the option to swear on any book or object you hold sacred (you may have to bring your own) or to swear without an object, or to not swear but instead affirm your oath.Just a few "why is its":
Why is it that I have to swear on Bible in court but the 10 commandments aren't allowed to be displayed outside?
Same for the Honda. I discovered that I needed to RTM!I’m not sure on a Honda, but on Ford/Lincoln the feature can be turned off through the message center or infotainment screen if equipped or through dealer programming.
1: No. We have primaries to reduce a large field down to a select few. Just like the beauty pageant.1 it's easier to choose the 'lesser of two evils' vs many beautiful choices ?
2 it's a 'liberal' thing giving minorities control over the majority
3 same as #2
4 dang I had the answer but lost a few of the important brain cells before I could type it.
5 true, though not many KNOW ( day of infamy ,earlier this week....81 years ago..)
6 that is very, very TRUE
Branding, which literally meant the application of a branding iron to the convicted defendant’s body, was generally imposed upon convicts who received leniency from the court. For example, convicts who successfully pleaded “benefit of the clergy” — a practice which would spare a defendant affiliated with the Church from a death-penalty punishment — “were branded on the thumb (with a “T” for theft, “F” for felon, or “M” for murder), so that they would be unable to receive this benefit more than once.” Similar brands were issued to convicts who were found guilty of manslaughter instead of murder.
Should the convict appear before the Court again, they would be required to raise their right hand, which would allow the Court to assess whether they had committed any previous crimes or received leniency in the past. This indelible “criminal record” was thus a sort of pre-cursor to the “character evidence” of today.
Actually, it is older…..much older…..The practice arose in Ancient Greece and Rome for men ( who were the only gender allowed to testify in a court proceeding) .So I wonder why we raise our right hand and declare to tell the truth. I found this.
Looks like it’s a holdover from the 17th century. According to this article, a number of people that had previously been in court for a crime were branded on the right hand -
Lines right up with my long-standing policy of never shaking hands with Boy Scouts (or proctologists)Actually, it is older…..much older…..The practice arose in Ancient Greece and Rome for men ( who were the only gender allowed to testify in a court proceeding) .
Men would hold their testicles in their left hand and raise their right hand to the Gods ( Thus, only TESTIMONY would come from men) , and swear on their honor and manhood that they would tell the truth as an honest citizen would
You shake hands with your right hand, not your left hand........Lines right up with my long-standing policy of never shaking hands with Boy Scouts (or proctologists)
I think that is true. But might be better to shake hands with the hand you do not use to eat with...LOLYou shake hands with your right hand, not your left hand........
Not the Boy Scouts (well from distant memory, anyway)You shake hands with your right hand, not your left hand........
