B7100 rops

Good morning from chilly western Kentucky! I have an early B7100 tractor, gear trans and 4x4 if it makes a difference. I have found an individual that owns a ROPS that was taken from a B7100 but doesn't own the tractor. My question(s) is what years had ROPS and are they all pretty much interchangeable? is it a straight forward bolt-on? I would like to have a bar on mine but, i don't want to have a big job on my hands making it fit. Any help would be appreciated! I seem to be the lone "orange" stranger in my town.

I have a 1979 B7100dt. I purchased a ROPS from Kubota last year. I think it was $175 installed. I thought about installing it myself, but there was no price advantage as installation was included in the special Kubota pricing (http://www.kubota.com/f/safety/rops.cfm). The biggest advantage is they have a couple different height ROPS available (be sure to ask or they won't tell you that). I was able to have a shorter one installed so I could fit my tractor in the garage and shed. So for the cost, I would suggest just going with a brand new ROPS from Kubota through the ROPS and Seatbelt Installation Program, it will save you the hastle and installing a ROPS you might not be happy with.

By the way, my ROPS were made by FEMCO. I think they are manufactured in Missouri.

I can't help you decide whether the used rops will fit your 7100 or not, but any dealer should be able to assist you with that.
I have installed two rops over the years. One on a L210, one on a B6100. I have to believe the 6100 is going to be the same as the 7100. It's been several years ago so my memory may not be right on, but here goes. It seems I remember you need to remove the pto shield (if there is even one installed). A lot of them went missing over the years. Then you also need to remove the pin that your lower lift arms pivot on. To do this you need to remove one of the rear tires and rim. Other wise you do not have enough room to pull the pin all the way out. Then you will need someone to help you lift it into place and hold it while you reinsert the pin. If you have an over head lift then it's a piece of cake. If not, get a neighbor or friend to help you. Don't try it alone. Make sure you keep the lift arms and spacers in the right order when reinstalling them. Then I believe there are some bolts that go back into where you remove the pto shield from, and maybe a couple of others that go into the frame. Once you have it in place, you will see where the bolts need to go. That's about it. Don't forget to install the seat belt onto the rops. The instructions with the new ones are pretty good. Oh, and the bolts are all metric. So sometimes they can be a problem to find. I believe they are all fine thread grade 8.8. Even harder to find. Of course, all of this comes with a new rops.
I bought both of my rops through Kubota's safety program. The dealer sells them to you at cost. I think they were under $200/piece. Small price to pay for piece of mind.

Hi Have just installed new ROPS on my B7200, 1986. I did buy new ones, however if your used ROPS came off of a B7100 they should fit your B7100.
On the B7200 the ROPS sit on top of the lower link rod so there was no new to remove the rod as the bottom of the ROPS have a knotch that fits the rod diameter. I did have to remove the lower link arms and spacers. The New ROPS come with all new bolts (different lengths to accommodate the thickness of the ROPS) and new spacers (2 cylinders and 2 flat square plates that slide onto the lower link rod.
There are 3 bolts up each side of the PTO shield that must be removed as these are used to secure the ROPS to the differential housing. There are also 2 bolts just above the shield that hold the top link backet in place that must be removed as these are also used to secure the ROPS, so 8 bolts in all will hold the ROPS in place. My ROPS were not a matched pair so some proding and prying was necessary to get the bolts in once to top joint is put together. The new ROPS also came with a seatbelt which is bolted to tangs welded to the ROPS just for the seatbelts. This was not a difficult install but a little frustrating due to the mismatched ROPS halves.

Ok, I have a ROPS installed on my 7100, and in my haste to get it into my "sub-garage" to get it out of the cold, I drove it in, not noticing that the ROPs was too tall, and so a brief wheely ensued, but my tractor is now in the small garage (with some bruising to the garage door frame). However, I will never be able to back it out of there without lowering the ROPS some. Can I lower it temporarily a couple of inches without removing it? I guess I need to get it out of there and park it elsewhere.

You might be able to let the air out of the tires to get it out??

Russell has a great Idea with the air, if that still doesn't get you low enough, either remove the ROPS or the tires or raise the door frame.

Or, you might be able to get the rops low enough by raising the front wheels on some boards or planks?

That thought occurred to me about 1 am this morning (when many great ideas occur. Too bad I forget most of them). I think I will give that a shot - after this cold snap passes.

I just looked at the price list for the ROPS since my B7100 does not have it. I'm sure they cost more than $148 these days. I need to inquire about this the next time I go order parts.

Or, you might be able to get the rops low enough by raising the front wheels on some boards or planks?

Another good idea, also just raising the front with a floor jack with wheels and roll it on out.

Another thought about getting this out..

Jack it up with a floor jack, remove rear wheels, lower floor jack and pull it out of the garage, jack it back up and re-install the wheels.

This is all contingent on having a floor jack and the floor jack being able to get high enough to raise the tractor at the center rear axle.

Yep, the remove air from tires idea worked, along with a rather substantial teenager hanging on the ropes as I backed out.
