First Snow...

Tomorrow is our first big snow (20-25cms expected) and I've been lax.
Still have the FEL and lawnmower mounted to the BX !
Snowblower still wrapped in a tarp.

I can deal with it using the FEL & back blade I guess. (but the snowblower is very nice)

10cm (4 inches) last night and more today. Time for snow tires on the cars and to get the snow blower off the storage rack.

At least the Jehovah's witnesses are less likely to venture down an un-lowed driveway to knock on my door. It's getting too cold to answer the door in my underwear.

Along the lake, I hear Buffalo NY is going to get hammered they say 3 to 6 feet of snow this week end. The weather man has been wrong before I sure hope he is this time!

Up in NE Ohio along the lake there is small craft advisory and forecast for 20-30 knot winds from SW….when it’s cold and lake not frozen that is gonna drop the white stuff for sure…gonna build up full length of the lake…shovels will be selling out quickly f it hits like the forecast.

If it goes the way NOAA is saying a snow shovel is going to be an exercise in futility,, I hope they fare well

Put my wife's car in the garage the other evening when it started snowing. The first time it has ever been in the garage since new, and the first time in almost 40 years the garage was used for what it was originally intended. Problem is that the car is 8' wide and the garage door is 9' wide. When we built the home, most garage doors were 8' and I thought that the extra 12" would be worthwhile. Cars have gotten smaller, but SUVs have gotten wider. Usually, my collectible cars are in the garage, but this year, they are in cold storage in a very large barn.

I'm a reverse "snowbird". When the temperatures drop I head north.
Central and Sothern California from February through September, North Idaho October through January.

That almost makes me jealous! After 27 years in the tropics I'm utterly fed up with hot and bone-dry or utterly humid weather, and all the of nasty critters and diseases that come with it.

Well, I got the mower off the BX today (it peaked 1*C...what's that, about 33-34F?) and so I never got around to putting on the blower, so did the 220' driveway and turnabouts with the bucket. WE got less than 6" of snow as it turned out, but it was crunchy on top and icy underneath, so I decided to attack it.

Not so bad.

I am not sure I'd want to do 3' of drifted snow with a tiny bucket, but running the little BX was fun. I have never bucketed snow with this machine before. Always have used it's snowblower or a walk-behind blower so this was a brand new experience.

Once, 15years ago I used a 1960's International 50-60hp 2WD tractor with a bucket. THAT was a LOT like work. (heavy wet snow and the pedals were so hard to push down I had no idea how my elderly neighbour ever did it ! ! !)

Brings back memories how my IH 624 was a challenge to start especially on cold days

After watching the news about the LES in upstate NY all I can think of is I'm really glad I don't live there. We had 4' of snow in one storm several years ago. The thought of 5 or more. . .

How do you see past the pile of snow at the end of the road by the mailboxes? What happens if you get another storm before this pile melts?

I move the new pile over and start a new one in a different spot. This is last winter. And, if I have too I move snow in the dump trailer.
