You and I and a heck of a lot of others had this problem. I checked into it and solved the problem by purchasing an oil filter wrench from Harbor Freight, that is similar to a set of vise grips. This was recommended by others with the same problem. Same screw on the bottom just like all the vise grips we have used. I had to make a special trip last week to HF, and purchased one for $9.95. I brought it home and easily removed the HST filter the next day, that nothing else would touch. I had a large strap wrench that removed all filters except the HST. Get one for 10 dollars you will be glad you did, and so are a lot of others like us.

I don't believe the painting over the filter at the factory theory now that I have completed this trip to maintenance hell. It's just that Hydraulic filter is a super stressed, pressure filter.
The "paint sticking the oil filter on" is always good for a laugh.

Just so some of you know what I was talking about when I said there is a filter wrench at Harbor Freight
to remove stuborn oil filters.

I used this. It's a tight fit on the filters but on an LX it fits all 3.
I did have to tap it on the filters an 80mm one might work better. But all the 80's I found were steel with a lip that stuck out towards the OD at the filter end.
On my LX2610 the lower radiator hose is tight to the oil filter. I did not want to take a chance of the filter wrench cutting into the hose...

Someone on this forum suggested an air chisel with a blunt chisel directed against the notches on the filter's mounting flange. I did this and got the filter off in seconds.

I have used this method occasionally for over 30 years, works great.
