Use RV Anti-freeze in the bucket, it keeps the stink away.hmmm. . . seems no magic bullet here
I have used the 5 gallon water bucket before. In the summer it gets nasty quickly with dead mice. I may have to resort to it tho.
I don't have an RWS .22 but I do have one of their .177 pellet rifles which is equally effective.
Our dogs are both labs. They like to dig after them but are not very effective. The black lab actually caught one a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately while she was proudly carrying it she let it go and it ran off.
I agree cats sound like the answer but would be a no go here.

This does work the best…no poison and it will catch many of them before time to ‘refresh’. I would also lay a stick running up to the bucket to encourage them…

VERY entertaining. Housecats are like little lions if you watch them. Or lions are like housecats I don't know which, but there are lots of similarities.
Can't help if you dogs don't like cats. In that case you're going to just have to deal with them on your own. A cat, you give it a few bits of food and some water, and let them hunt the rest....they take care of themselves for the most part. But if the dog's gonna kill 'em, the cats won't stick around, they'll run off and kill someone else's rats/chipmunks/mice. that or get some dogs that will kill mice/chipmunks. Good luck with that.
bad part about d-con is that they eat a chunk of it and run off. Then an owl kills/eats one and then the owl dies. Or coyote. Or fox. Or snake. Or cat. I have a couple old barn cats (non-friendly) that take care of the mice/rats around the place and one of them got bad sick a couple years ago. I started to put it down, but decided against it and took it to the vet. Vet said it was poisoned with rat poison that someone put out. That cat made it but it was dicey for a few days, just laid in the corner of the shop for a while until one morning I went out there and it was gone. That evening, seen it chasing and "playing" with a snake behind the house.
sticky traps work too but they also catch everything else. Spiders bugs dirt dog feet etc. Also if you forget about one, a critter will get on it and it will just starve, die, and stink. And boy do they stink! There are a few animals that I have no use for, but as much I don't like them I still won't starve them. I'll trap and relocate them but I won't starve 'em.

Chippers aint a real problem this year last year a lot of them wound up as worm food,,,, this year however I have take 36 ground hogs from the garden around the house and barn... If it aint one thing its another

WhenI bought my home the dam chipmunks undermined the garage floor pad! It cracked in multiple places and is uneven now! Rat traps with peanut butter and sunflower seeds works well. Also set up some PB and SF seeds in a good spot to snipe them with the .22 from the window. Loads of fun. Then I saw the feral cat population start to rise in my area. At first I was mad but it became rare to see chipmunks! I have seen the vids with the bucket of water! Its time to set it up! Just noticed mouse poop in the dogs dish the other day. The mice love to move into the house for winter. DAM if I know how they get in. I have this place sealed up good and tight!

Mostly 22lr, I did borrow a buds 17 hmr just to see if I like it, and it works very well,, but 22lr is a lot cheaper and easyer to find. And most were around 50 yards or so

Barn cat is awesome. Also absolutely no unsealed food or scraps of any kind around the house. If a chipmunk can smell that dog food so can bigger animals.Last week I saw a chipmunk on top of a closed bag of dogfood in the garage. He had chewed a hole in it and must have thought he had found food heaven.
So I pulled out my Havaheart trap, baited it with peanut butter and caught him in an hour. There is a state hiking trail about a mile from here so I delivered him to his new home. All good. Not so much
An hour ago I caught my 11th one. I now take them to the linear park trail about 2 miles from here, all except one. That one I left outside overnight in the trap and in the morning the trap was upside down and Chip was gone. I'm guessing a fox or coyote 'relocated' him for me.
I don't see anymore outside. They used to torment the dogs, staying just outside their fence.
Anybody have a way to keep these pests away? I now have all the dog food stored in the plastic bin.

Agree we dont use any poisons ever (inside or outside). Good chance you are killing another animal or worse one of your own.
Watch out for those qritters! They like the wiring on my 2015 Ford F150. Apparently, the wire insulation is made from a soy base. Truck was running rough with service engine codes 2X in last year. The mechanic found chewed wires both times. I also have a 2010 Chevy Traverse where they love to build a nest and eat acorns underneath the engine cover. I have a lot of squirrels but only a few chipmunks in the woods around back of house. I have screwed 2 rat traps to a board and put a milk crate over it for the garden ones, sometimes I get a field mouse or vole. I have a kestrel box on the garage and if she is feeding young I recycle mice and munks by putting them on some firewood. often she will spot them. I am constantly dealing with the mice getting in the subaru. I screened the heater intake and the flaps in the back so I think they must get in by the transmission tunnel. Need to disassemble that area and figure a way to put some screen in there but not restrict the shifter.
