Our Z421 made a clunking sound and now can only mow, not move forward or backwards. We called for Kubota service who will take it away from our driveway only but we need to get it out of the backyard up a slope to the driveway.

If I am reading the manual correctly, we need to disengage the Hydrostatic transaxle bypass rods (or set them such that the transmission is disengaged) and we should pull it with a truck or something with no one behind it should it break free.

Is this correct?

Thanks for any guidance.

Probably just the drive belt. Not too hard if you have a few tools. I have to replace the one on my Husqvarna PTZ about every two years.

Drive belt most likely. My mower did same thing with about 350 hours, clunk and no forward or rear drive. Wife and I replaced drive belt, not to hard.

I have no idea how you would disconnect the hydrostatic drive but once they are inactive the mower will be able to freewheel down hill so just don’t let it get loose or stay out of harms way.

If you pull it just go slow to avoid damage to the drive system

I know on my 122 the left side rod drops into a slot further back but the right side rod has to be held back while the machine is moved. Not sure why kubota made it like that.

It was made that way as a safety. You have to manually hold the rod in neutral for the unit to roll. If or let go of the rod, it moves back into its home position and the unit stops rolling.

Makes it hard to move if you're by yourself. Drill a hole for rod to drop into and problem solved
