Hello, I have a circa 1983 B7100 in (bought recently in NZ) which has no front wheel drive. I investigated and found the UJ missing and the output shaft chewed up. I have split the tractor and have attached a photo of the transmission output, two things:
Where can I get parts from (preferably in NZ)?
How difficult a job is it to remove and replace the FWD output shaft?
I guess It would be too much to hope that a replacement UJ could be fitted to a cleaned up output shaft, looks like the shaft has broken where the hole for the security pin would have been.
Thanks, any help much appreciated

Are those marks on the output shaft just that, or are they cracks. If cracks, it if fubared for sure.
The output shaft needs replacement I think as it looks as though the end is missing, I have the gearbox cover off, I need to work out how to get the shaft out, should be a hair raiser, I've never worked on gearbox before!
Cheers,

Get the workshop manual. It covers the dissassembly and reassembly process in detail and you will not figure it out on your own. I have that exact same failure and job to do on my B7200 and have been putting it off.

I rebuilt my transmission years ago and that part is pretty easy. Replace ALL of the seals when you are in there. I had a look at the WSM when mine broke and IIRC that shaft is about the last one out. You may need some special tools - gear pullers/ shop press/etc - but I dont recall the specifics.

Separating the unit from the tractor to service it is the royal PITA.

Thanks for your reply Dan, I think I will try and get the transmission case off and then take it to a specialist gearbox engineer when I have located a replacement output shaft, I have found a UJ in NZ but no shaft so I have to source one from overseas.
I read another post that had a problem getting the case off and it said that the PTO shaft was holding it somehow, rotating the PTO shaft enabled it to come free so I'll try that before dismantling the rear end/wheels.

I just looked at the parts diagrams' for the B7100 and the FWD shaft is different from my B7200. On your tractor that shaft may come out without disassembling the transmission. WSM is your friend. Messicks lists that shaft (66204-14810??) at $256 USD.

Hello from NZ,
I have some questions please on my 1983 B7100:
  • where can I find information on how to remove the FWD output shaft in the transmission case
  • any suggestions on where to find a replacement shaft, Messick's will not ship outside of the US, only to a US address which of course I don't have

Repair information can be found in the workshop manual. Free for download at kubotabooks.com.

I occasionally ship my products internationally but its not cheap and the customer had to deal with local customs and any import duties. If Messicks has the shaft I can forward it to you.
