Rotary cutter recommendation

Howdy - question for the smart folk. I am looking for a rotary cutter for my Kubota L4060 tractor. I have been trying to work with my Kubota dealer for several months to get a Land Pride and having no luck. I was looking at the RCR2160 (1" cut capacity) or the 2" cut capacity RCF2060 or RCF20722. Any other those would do. My land is mostly grass, small brush.

According to my dealer you pretty much can't get anything from Land Pride. So I am wondering if anyone can recommend another rotary cutter that they know would be available with minimal lead times. I know there are a lot brands out there but right now availability would be my number one selection criteria.

As far as availability I can't help you. Check the used market online, call other dealers, etc. On your machine your tires can be at just over 60" in the wide setting. I would go 72" on the cutter. If we weren't 2500 miles apart I might be able to help, trying to decide if I should keep a land pride 72". Good luck.

Brush cutters tend to be kinda regional, Bush Hog is popular down here. There are several national brands, Woods comes to mind. I'd also go 6' like an LP RCR1872 with your tractor. We have a Bush Hog 286 which is about the same.

IMO, brush cutters are kind of generic. Get a certain HP rated gearbox and metal gauge/thickness and structural strength. There are a few details, one or two tailwheels, swivel bushing or bearing, top link flex, etc but mostly generic.

You can get an American made 60" Dirt Dog RC100 rotary cutter with slip clutch from Good Works Tractor Co. for $2,400. It's currently showing as being in stock. Free shipping to 36 states but not to Utah.

Dirt Dog didn't accept 'good enough' for their brush hog. A domed deck reduces standing water, and a new pivot frame gives more articulation while mowing.

For mostly grass and small brush you can get a County Line unit from Tractor Supply and probably have it today. I have one and use it with my similarly powered Allis Chalmers 5040 . I use it for grass and brush and it works great. I have had it 8 years and log maybe 10-15 hours use per year. I consider it a reasonably priced lighter duty unit .No complaints. Possibly made by the same Chinese people that make the Land Pride cutter that you desire. A 6 footer runs $2,199. Good luck.

The way my Kubota dealer explained it to me is dealers have a production order put in a couple of times a year. That's what they get. If you special order, it's 6 months or more lead time, and you pay shipping. Land Pride doesn't build all items all of the time.

My two closest dealers carry different items. In one case, I wanted a heavier rear blade than my dealer carried. To be specific, they carried the lighter one and heavier one. My closest dealer didn't have one, but the second dealer had multiple choices. Yes, I had to drive a couple of hours farther one way.

So, my recommendation is check with a different Kubota dealer if you want a Land Pride implement. You might be surprised what one dealer might have in stock vs another one.

I'm not sure why you think Land Pride cutters are made by Chinese people, but I guess they could be living in the US where Land Pride manufacturing plants are.

Very few U.S. manufactured products will have all components from the U.S. Even had the gearbox itself been assembled in the U.S., it is likely some gearbox components like bearings and seals would have been sourced from outside of the U.S.

Chinese products can be very high quality, very low quality, and everywhere in between. It is highly dependent upon the buying organization specs and the attention to detail of their quality control people.

"Cues to quality" also vary heavily by culture. Some Chinese industrial products don't have the smoothly ground/polished exterior finish expected by many U.S. and EU purchasers but the actual performance and longevity is excellent. Many products are beautiful on the outside and pure junk in terms of design and quality of component/build quality. See the U.S. recreational vehicle industry for a sad example of this approach

I would say that in general the quality of most things out of China is low to average, unlike Taiwan and Japan where the quality is typically very good to excellent. I try to avoid buying Chinese products as much as possible but it's not easy.

Thank you for the recommendation. I really like the idea of buying product that is 1) In stock!) and 2) made (mostly) in the USA. Have reached out to see if this is really available as it sounds just fine for what I need.

I don't own any Dirt Dog products but I have have experience with Good Works Tractor Co. which was positive overall.

In my earlier post I stated that the County Line Rotary cutter is POSSIBLY made in China. I have since sniffed around and it might be an American made product with the gearbox made in China. The same as the Land Pride unit as I understand it. Mine works fine and I have performed no (zero) maintenance on it since my having purchased it 8 years ago. Occasionally I will sweep debris from the top. Good luck.

It depends on how the flail mower is configured. They can have knives or hammers.

As @jimh406 says, it depends. You can certainly use a flail for more than grass and weeds. Mine is rated for up to 2" diameter stuff.
