A few more pages like that and you might have a coffee table book ready for publication!I'm a recovering coffiholic. I lived in that rabbit hole for a few years. It became a dark place before I knew what was happening. Ground my own beans, beans I bought from all over the world. French press strictly timed. Turned my nose up to all coffee that wasn't expensive, ground by me, and French pressed.
One day a few years ago, I was still in the hole. Holey-er than thou, so to speak. I was driving to the gun range with my brother one morning. He wanted a cup so he suggested McDonald's, as they had changed their coffee marketing to something sounding classy. I smiled and snickered to myself wondering how much of a fool my brother might be. I got a cup too, not to offend.
That cup of coffee changed my life. Darn, it was good. Over the next couple months I climbed out of the hole. Amongst broken and stained coffee presses, and a couple coffee grinders that had seen better days, I emerged a new man. The mailers from far off lands selling the finest coffee were simply thrown away. i had more time to do other things.
Now, I'm a Kuerig guy. Black Rifle company being a favorite of all varieties. Donut House and McDonalds pods are good too.
I had to come to grips with my coffee problem. I had to face the reality that I missed.
Yeah, it is amazing to have the house fill with the smell of roasting coffee beans. The company that sold the Hottop included three sample packs from different regions (which I chose) with five 1/2lb bags per pack. I've been buying Central American beans for years favoring Costa Rica variants, but one of the sample packs had beans from two places in Guatemala and I'm hooked. I ordered 25lb of one of them which won't last as long as you might think. That will be a next step for me. A good roasting machine and finding a good blend of green coffee beans. I can only imagine how good the house smells....
That was a good thread.Plus you can add these comments: LINK
Burr grinders are another rabbit hole to head down. I used a Cuisinart model for years (the model tested in the video below), and still have it, but it's a piece of junk to be honest. There are some really good YouTube channels related to coffee, and my favorite by far is James Hoffmann's channel.Been wanting to buy a nice burr grinder and either a hario manual drip or technivorm drip machine. We currently use a blade grinder and Keurig with refillable K-cups and whatever dark roast whole bean coffee Costco has available. Waiting to get our bar finished so I can splurge on a nicer set up.
I'll have to check those and that channel out. We've been using the same krups grinder for 7+ years now (heavy use) and it's lasted but want to have a good replacement in mind once it does finally die.Burr grinders are another rabbit hole to head down. I only posted those links to provide a way to get to Hoffmann's channel and to show some of the comparisons that he does. He basically concludes that it's not worth it to buy a cheap burr grinder. You're better off saving up for a good one.I'll have to check those and that channel out. A reviewer for the grinder on Amazon did just that. It takes a minute or so to grind 16g of coffee by hand so not a big deal."It's kind of neat to have to work for the coffee a bit"
First thought when I saw that was to run it with a DeWalt 20V drill.
Agree. I prefer Black Rifle over anything else I’ve found. But for the wife, that’s what I’d be drinking. I doubt my ability to produce anything superior to it although I do understand the remarkably unstable nature of roasted beans as an attractant to some for custom roasting at home.Really try some Black Rifle coffee, it really isnt too bad
Wait! I've read a number of your tractor related posts here! Always worthwhile and helpful...Sometime we are the last to realize certain things about ourselves...Two of the techs I worked with took the rabbit hole to China , I think.
They spent years experimenting with various machines, coffees, blends, grinds, days of the week, phases of the moon, etc., etc., etc..
I hope I never get that anal about anything.
My Marine son was in Iraq a few years ago. I tried to ship him some Black Rifle Coffee direct from their website. Shipping to a military family member overseas is a bit of a process, and everything going to my son's unit went thru Germany first.Well I have to say this about Black Rifle coffee company. The last deployment the SIL was on I was scrounging around trying to find people to get some care packages together for the boys and girls over seas. So for shyts and giggles I contacted them, you know, anything ,something ,small from home ,makes a big difference. And they answered the call, as they are a vet owned and run company from what I understand. Im not sure how much coffee they shipped over, the boys and girls sent letters of thanks to them.
And I started using as well. Im sure there are other companies like that as well,,
OK, maybe you got me there.Wait! I've read a number of your tractor related posts here! Always worthwhile and helpful...Sometime we are the last to realize certain things about ourselves...
