Sorry if I should have found this answer by searching, I tried searching and couldn't find the answer.

I just finished changing the engine oil filter and fluid tonight.
Next up, or so I thought, was replacing all 11.3 liters of HST fluid and the filter....
But now I see that the manual doesn't actually specify fluid replacement at 50 hrs, only filter replacement.

So my question is, now that I'm at the 50 hr mark what am supposed to do?
Replace the HST fluid and filter, or just the filter?
If I unscrew the filter without draining the transmission will all the HST fluid come gushing out?

Thanks!

On any BX series tractor, you can remove the HST filter and not lose much more oil than what is in the filter. It is not a suction filter, it is pressure fed so it is not directly open to the reservoir.
If you were to remove the suction screen to clean it, you will lose half or more of the hydraulic oil.

Sounds as though you're in luck on the BX. I tried elevating the back of my B2601 at 50 hour filter change and lost about a gallon of fluid. Too late to do the wet/dry vac trick. Sounds like on the BX that it is not needed.

The real filter you need to "look at" is the suction screen - can it be done without losing a lot of fluid - I have heard it can be, but ...... hellva way to find out that it is still a hellva mess to do it.

I would empty all hydraulic oil - change filter, clean screen and KNOW for sure that everything is as it should be by cleaning , replacing and filling with new oil!

Drain hydraulic fluid into a clean container. Change filter and clean suction screen. Refill with the clean, drained hydraulic fluid, but have a quart or two SUDT2 on hand to top off if needed.

My tiny rodent brain just thought of something regarding the use of a shop vac to stem oil loss: if you apply the vacuum before you extract the screen will you not suck the debris (pronounced DEB-briss) off of the screen once extraction finally occurs?

Also, is there an atmospheric vent for the transmission fluid reservoir? I'm wagering that there is one.

Thanks for the feedback! I think there's value inspecting and cleaning the strainer, and I already bought the oil so I'll just do a full change. Since it's far from actually being due, I don't feel rushed to get it done now.

To prevent lose of any fluid use a shop vac on the fill port doesnt need super suction leave it one while changing the filter. Youll lose whats in the filter put new one on and dill just what you lost from the filter
