is a 40hp rated box blade okay with a 52hp tractor?

I need some advice on a new box blade and tractor I purchased. The tractor is a M5140, 52hp, 4WD and the box blade is a land pride BB1572 rated at a maximum horsepower of 40 according to the operators manual. Now I'm wondering if I have the wrong box blade. I suppose worse case is the tractor bends or brakes the box blade since it has more power than the box blade was designed to handle. Do anyone have any experience or opinions as to what I may be facing? Thanks for any help.

With that tractor, the minimum I would use would be the BB25 Series, I use one on my L5030.

My preference on the M5040 would be the HR35; kind of wish I had bought one myself.

A lot will depend on your uses and your tractor driving habits. If you take it easy, and don't operate with abandon, it will probably hold up. You could always sell it- they seem to bring good money- and upgrade.

If your in the habit of running into immovable objects it may not last long. Otherwise with normal use and care it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Weight of a BB1572 is 504 pounds.
Weight of a BB2572 is 549 pounds.

Usually in something like this weight adds strength and weight is your friend when digging or for counter balance. I have to add weight to mine to get optimum performance.

I prefer not to have to worry about bending stuff, so I go stronger and as mentioned wish I had gone even strong.

Only you can determine if you are willing to accept less than optimum performance or if light weight equipment will work for you. If you are doing light work then light equipment will be fine.

Thanks for all the replys guys. They are mostly what I was thinking. For some reason the dealer put the package together for me with this combination. I picked the tractor and told him I wanted a Land pride 6' harrow, mower and box blade to go with it. It was all purchased together and delivered. Never would have thought he would have sold me a box blade rated less than the tractor. I suppose I will have to go back to him and see what he will do. I don't want a few years to pass and it gets twisted or bent and try to make it right then. I've only had it a month so now's the time.

That rating is mostly for mfg warranty purposes. You should be fine with your tractor unless you are deliberately trying to destroy your attachments.

We have several pieces of equipment that my father-in-law had to have straightened, welded and additional bracing applied that would not have been necessary if he had bought the right equipment in the first place.

I agree HP ratings are on the conservative side, but also know other factors including tractor weight and use must be considered.

As mentioned previously, I use a BB25 on a similar size tractor and based on three years of use wish I had gone up even higher in strength. If you intend to do light duty work, you should be fine. You can take it for what it's worth; just one person's opinion.
