I have an opportunity to pick up a cat 2 York Rake. Problem is its a Cat 2 implement.
I thought I could have a welder friend modify it to fit my cat 3pt. Is this practical? A mistake to even consider.
I can't justify buying a new one but it sure would be handy to have. . .

You can use your smaller pins - and then use a bushing to fill the gaps in the holes/pins.

You may need a new top link however

Thanks 85Hokie this is my concern:

Not so much the vertical height difference though that may be an issue but the only solution I see for lower spread difference is welding up something that will step that distance down. If that works there would be proper cat 1 pins welded / bolted there.

If I don't have to do any location mods to the top I will have to change the pins to cat 1 anyway to accommodate my Euro style ball top link.

Why, just get a cat 2 top link ball. The cat 1 and cat 2 balls are all the same OD.

Thanks Brian - I did not know that.
I'm not sure the height difference is going to be an issue or not - ie length of top link. . .

For the "lift arm spread" dimension you may be able to remove the pins and insert them on the inside (pointing in towards each other) to shorten the length.

you can't hookup a CAT 2 implement to a CAT 1 tractor but...
...apparently the quickhitches that K sell are all CAT THREE, so 2 adapters would get it to work....

one possible chance ,depending on who made the York rake ,is to just replace the CAT2 pins with CAT1 pins.
I can't see a York rake being too heavy, though a model # might shed light on that

I think a rake is one of the better candidates for going from cat 2 to cat 1 because they usually aren't too heavy and don't take a lot of power to operate.

GENERALLY speaking you can make up most of the width difference by just turning the pins around to face the inside instead of the outside, as mentioned. I actually run most of my cat1 pins like that anyway because I have one implement that has a need to, and it's easier if they're all the same. Plus when i want to get the arms off the pins I can just walk up beside it and give the arm a swift kick inward rather than it needing to come outward. :)

I bought a POS Vevor quick hitch (I had a plan B for its parts, knowing it had a decent chance of sucking) and a quick hitch REQUIRES you to run the pins to the outside the way they're 'supposed' to be, so i turned some around again to use the quick hitch.. but I'll probably design my own quick hitch and turn them all back, cuz this one sucks. :p

IIRC one can reverse lower pins & install Cat l aimed at each other for tractor Cat l draft links.
