Hello all, long time lurker first time poster. I am in the process of potentially buying a 1972 L175 with a loader and box on it, and wanted to poll the audience as far as value goes. The seller is an older man, asking $3000 for it. Within the last year It has new tires, new steering column, and new hydraulic system. I was messing around with it today and it seems the alternator and brakes are shot. Does $3000 seem reasonable given the recent work and issues it’s presenting? Thank you, Nick

Yep. In this market, with a loader and attachment. Alternator is typically pretty easy to fix. Brakes I don't think are terribly expensive and may just need adjusted. Either was I think it's a good price.

Yes, if it runs well and the loader, 3 pt hitch and PTO work correctly.

The brakes are external (dry) so they may well need repair. Shouldn't be too difficult but new OEM parts are $$$.

There's a shop manual available on Www.kubotabooks.com.

Half of the $3000 price is scrap iron price. Buy it now before someone else recognizes that it is bargain-basement pricing. The box blade alone would probably sell quickly at $1000 on Craigslist.

Yes it is worth it. Anything that cheap with a loader without major issues is worth that. Around here people ask that much for old 8N's with crazy loaders on them.

Loader is worth $1500 by itself. Box blade worth a decent amount too.

Thank you all for your responses- looks like I’m going to pull the trigger. As far as an alternator goes, does anybody know a part number/place where I might be able to order one that’s compatible?

Your charging system has an alternator and a regulator that controls it. Alternators are pretty simple - if it needs service, take it to a local auto electrical shop. They can check/replace the bearings, brushes, and diodes. They can probably also test the regulator. If you remove it, make sure you mark the connections for reinstallation. Take the schematic out of the WSM with you.

First, check for any loose or broken wires and bad/rusty connections or blown fuses.

Absolutely!
The OP should buy it, before someone else does!

Easiest way with old diesels is to just look up and engine # part guide and find the part # and good it. Chances are the more was used in other things and a lot of times there is a ton of crossover parts.

For that price I would have bought it, even not needing a third tractor!

Good you did not hesitate.

If it would have been closer I would have bought it at that price. Good deal no doubt.
