Tools Needed for New Tractor Owner - Tool Sizes

I did get a torque wrench that goes from 25 ft lbs to 150 ft lbs. I also got a Lock n Lube grease gun because I really like how it locks onto fittings. I asked Sant for the Lock n Lube with the yellow barrel but I got the one with the green barrel and pistol grip hand pump with a 90 degree detachable nozzle. My home Depot has individual wrenches for sale so I probably will just by them one at a time when I find thew sizes I need and also a larger adjustable wrench. I should have most everything else. The word on the street is that it may be January 2023 before I see the tractor I ordered but in the mean time I am collecting what I can. I hope the tractor may somehow get here in the next 6 months so I can start my projects.

I checked the tightness on my loader bolts today. They are SAE, not metric.

Buy a good set of ratchets in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch drive. Also buy a good set of sockets in those drive sizes in both SAE and metric. The largest metric socket I have is 30mm for the mower blade bolts.

The loader bolts on my MX are 1 1/8”

I bought a lube shuttle grease gun and a new Craftsman (at Lowes) click torque wrench and another used oil collection container. Already have a full set of metric impact sockets for my 1/2 inch drive, channel locks, adjustable wrench. Gobs of other tools but these are the main ones needed for the tractor. Keep a small, bit head hammer on the tractor. Lots of spare pins.

Does anyone know the size of the hydraulic fittings I want to buy a tube wrench to tighten them as they are leaking a little on the backhoe. b2301 or b2601. Are they metric or SAE thank you

Hose fittings will be Imperial (inch) and flare wrenches wont work on them. You will need open end for them. I would expect any tube fittings to be Imperial as well but thats a pure guess. Given the relatively low cost buy a flare wrench set that has both. I have both and I can't remember the last time I needed a metric flare wrench.

Given the relatively low cost buy a flare wrench set that has both. I have both and I can't remember the last time I needed a metric flare wrench.

The opening on a flare wrench is just large enough to fit over the corresponding tube size. It is too small to fit over the much larger diameter of a hose ferrule. A JIC-06 hose end is 3/4" across flats.A 19mm wrench will usually fit. Here is a 19mm flare wrench which fits the 3/4" swivel perfectly but is not even close to fiting over the ferrule. If the hose has a tube end you can get the wrench on.

Deep and shallow impact sockets even if you plan to use a regular ratchet. It won't hurt anything but will be helpful if you switch to an impact later. Round out your needed sizes if any by buying individual sockets on eBay/Amazon or similar. There doesn't seem to be any sets that have every size with skips of two to three mm common.

Ratcheting open end wrenches with a box combination. They are handy when a normal ratchet doesn't easily work.

A good torque wrench that is easily adjusted. Avoid the cheap ones with a knob that turns in the center. Setting them is problematic although they can work, and those are bit better than nothing. Ones that go higher generally give you more leverage for the higher settings like wheel nuts.

Wrenches for the 3 pt adjustment arms. You can get by with an adjustable wrench, but if you do, buy a pretty good quality one that doesn't have a lot of play in the adjustment screw. Otherwise, buy open end wrenches.

A good floor jack with enough capacity to lift at least one side of your tractor. More is better if it will actually fit under.

I just changed the udt and engine oil for the 50 hour and the udt was 11/16 engine 9/16 is the whole tractor SAE
