I want to use my tractor (has front loader) on the main road to tow a trailer containing non agricultural goods. Yes I appreciate I'll need a yellow beacon and turning indicators, but...

Can anyone advise what the road fund duty (tax) will cost me? I understand for 'pure' agricultural use the duty will be zero, however for non-agricultural use it could cost about £20. Can anyone advise on this please?

A specific web address and definition would be good please?

Thanks in advance :)

Some info Here ,I think you need the "off road catagory and use Derv as opposed to red diesel as fuel.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the link. As my machine has a back hoe 'attachment', it could fall in to a 'digging machine' class which is chargeable at £165. But as its an attachment, unlike a JCB it seems to fall in to the 'agricultural machine' tax class of which seems to be exempt from paying tax.

For road fund tax rates, see - http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consu...n/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_067081.pdf

Next challenge is registering the tractor with dvla to get a set of registration plates to tax it. Has any one been through this process? If so any comments please?

Thanks

Steve
