In my tool and die shop I did proto type work with an engineer who was with a major turf machine manufacturer.. One of the many things I learned from him was that plug machines were better for manicured lawns.. Lawns, sports fields, golf turf and the like.. Don't fret, there is a machine that sweeps, grinds, and spreads plugs to preserve the envy of the neighborhood look....

I would love, love to have a spiked drum attachment to use on our pastures and paddocks.. As well as aeration, it would work well to break down weed stalks to kill or stunt there growth.. Grass will usually bend and come back quicker helping to suffocate weeds to a point... This method of control taking longer, but cheaper to do repeatedly...

I would hate to bump up against or fall on that! Needs a guard!

It's amazing the past generations of farmers ever survived the farming techniques due to the lack of guards on older farm equipment such as rolling stalk cutters shown in photo below.

IMHO one good guard against getting injured is using "common sense".

no real 'need' for a guard, the operator will have their seat belt on and no passengers.
Previous generations of farmers KNEW about 'hazards' and worked accordingly.
Friend buiit an 8' unit 4+decades ago but it was in 3 sections so it would TURN in the corners. Even a 4' roller is 'interesting' to try to turn 'mild' curves.

I do a lot of bush hogging my pastures in the fall after grain harvest and pull a four section spike harrow behind my 15 foot mower a lot. It breaks up manure helps control weeds and helps with aeration of the pasture.
