What kind of fencing do you use to keep critters out of the garden? My garden is only 30'x75' and im looking for advice from seasoned gardeners!

What type of critters are you trying to keep out? Smaller critters (rabbits, racoons, etc.) we have used an electric fence which I think is actually designed for goats. Looks like this

Before the economic craziness, you could get the fence for around $100 for a good size one (I don't know the measurements, it fits our needs). I don't think that included the charger, but I could be wrong.

As far as deer go, you need to build a concrete wall 20 ft tall and hope they aren't motivated enough to jump it. We have had limited success with keeping deer away (actually no success).

Deer are my main issue and I use the 72" tall fence from TSC (wouldve used taller if they had it). Even that is not high enough for em so i installed the fence onto 10' tposts and added two rows of barbless wire above the fencing.
Pic of fence is before I added the wire and before I added a section of the 72" fence to the gate.

My problems are deer and rabbits. An 8’ woven wire field fence works for deer and 3’ of chicken wire at the bottom works for rabbits.

I also use the TSC 72" fence, about 150'. it works for us against the deer, rabbits & the chickens, but not the chipmunks.

Grindstone I have looked at that fence at TSS and I think I may go that route and then add on top if needed.

Good Idea jyoutz. A small mesh fence along the bottom maybe 3' high for little critters and then the 72" on top. That will give me 9' of protection.

When we first moved to our home we were so over run with chippys they tunneled under my garage floor and made it collapse! Rat traps with peanut butter and sunflower seeds worked great. Also the same bait set up along the stone wall and then pick them off with the .22! The best was the feral cats. They really put a dent in the population!

2-3 strands of barbed wire electric fence, from rabbit height to deer height. Seems to have worked the last couple of years.
I really like the idea of electric fencing! Probably cheaper than fence and looks better! I did however see some youtube vids of critters taking the shock over starvation. That would probably be my luck. I would not like to see my little dog get zapped, but I guess it would only be once! :D

Thats the best and cheapest solution I could find around me other than the black plastic deer mesh you find at HD. That serves it purpose as a few season temp solution. I just hated how the snow would knock it down if you didnt lower it at the end of the season. If you go the TSC route like I did act fast cause it already went up another $10 since I bought it a few weeks ago and like $30 since last year.

That will deal with anything except birds.

When I lived in the Detroit area, I had rabbits eat all of the newly planted broccoli and cabbage plants down to the ground. I bought a small electric fence charger from TSC. It worked. After the plants started to yield, the rabbits weren't interested.

We are planning to try the electric fence this year. We picked up a couple solar fencing units and are now looking for fencing.

Glad to see someone else has already tried it out.
Thanks for sharing

What do you recommend for birds?
Links would be appreciated.
They ate all the strawberry plants.
For the rest, we are going to try the electric fence and we use Plantskydd.
