i have a rtv x900 with 1100hrs. will shift into high low reverse, 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. However the machine will not move. doesnt sound like the tranmission is engaging at all. Took it to the dealer...says we need a new transmission, however he doesnt have the gauges or trained mechanic to test the trasmission. 14 thousand dollars for the new transmission and install. my question is...are there any trained kudota hst transmission mechanics in the the southern US we can bring this to get checked out? I am in southeast louisiana.

When were the filters and fluid replaced? What fluid was used?

I don't remember how, but the throttle and HST control are both controlled by the accelerator pedal. Clean that up and see if you can tell that both levers are moving as the pedal is depressed.

I'm with you. If I couldn't do it myself, I'd find a dealer that could troubleshoot it before forking out for a complete transmission.

That dealer is trying to rip you off, that's a $6k transmission new.
Used you can get them for $2K.
And it sure as heck doesn't cost $8K to put it in.

Last year we had the RTV looked at, would loose all kind of speed going up a small hill. the shop said it was low on fluid. replaced the fluid and filters. i know the filters are kubota, unsure what type of fluid. after that fix it ran great, old top speed was 21, new was 25 even matained that going up the hill. then just slowly started going back the way it was. finally backed up to the burn pile to empty and just wouldnt go.

next time you're on it, mash down on the diff lock while attempting to drive. Does it move? If yes, you either have a broken axle, stripped hub, or perhaps an internal differential problem. The former two are much more common.

if not, it's gonna be internal-and will need further diagnosis.
