In the market for a 72" Box Blade: Rollover vs. Standard?

I'm in the market for a new box blade for my L2501.

I'm currently using an under-sized 54" box blade (originally purchased for my B2601) so, I'd like to get a heavier, wider, over-sized 72" box blade for my L2501.

I'm currently considering the Land Pride BB2572 ($1,800 from my dealer) or the Dirt Dog RO72 ($3,200 - shipped) rollover box blade. I like the weight and versatility of the rollover box blade but, dang, its a lot more money.
I could get the Dirt Dog this month, I'd have to wait until May to get the Land Pride.

What are your thoughts...

Depending on ‘what’ you’re putting in the box and what kind of grade you’ll be working on, you may at times need to drop some material so you can keep moving. R1’s would definitely help. All that said, I still think a heavy box blade is a better way to go. I went from a 60”/350# one to a 72” 515# on my 3301 and haven’t regretted it. I had also added 3” spacers to each of my rears so 60” wasn’t covering my tracks anymore.

I recommend a 65" roll over. About the next best thing to a set of hydraulic actuated scarifiers.

It is the perfect size for your L2501 IMO.

If you can afford the Dirt Dog, get it. I doubt that you will be thinking about the cost when you are out using it and not having to get off the tractor to set the rippers.

Thanks guys! That pretty much sums up what I’ve been thinking. I’m gonna try to seek out some better prices (if at all possible), but I’m definitely leaning rollover blade.

I have one of the original Gannon Earth-ca-vators that is probably 50+ years old that I have used behind my Bolens Garden tractor for many years & I have a LP box on the back of my 3301L . I like the Gannon a lot more than the LP . I wish I had one to fit my 3301 , so much easier to use .

Talking about Gannon roll overs- earthcavators, We also have a 36" unit for our 1968 Sears garden tractor. I use to build driveways with that thing as well as many many yards graded for lawns. Then later got a 65" and what I believe to be the very last roll over that Gannon built back in 2006, an 81" cat 2 unit at 980lbs.

Most people have no idea how versitile they are as well as were used commercially for many years before the hydraulic actuated rippers came into existence. The best part, no hydraulics required to get the rippers flipped and ready to work in a matter of seconds.

I'm pretty sure that mine still has the original teeth on the rippers & no sign of giving up . I've seen some large enough to fit my 3301 for sale , they just haven't been in my budget . & yes they are a monster workhorse !

If you can find a used Gill roll over blade the are good too.
