I’m only posting this because it kind of amazed me.

When I was a young teenager may be 13 or 14, or maybe even 12 years old, on the way to school, which we walked to by the way, for some reason I kicked a bottle that was laying on the ground. I think it was broken and when I kicked it a sharp point of it pushed into my leather shoe, and injured the big toe on my right foot.

As a couple years passed that toe became infected with some kind of fungus I guess. To make a long story short over the years that fungus infection moved to the other toes on that foot , and somehow found the toes on the other foot, but not to such a great degree.

I mean to the point that a few years ago some of the toenails on the smaller toes got really thick and started pointing up at about a 45° angle. And because they were sticking up they put pressure on my toes when I had my shoes on and started to cause a painful issue with the Toes.

So anyway, you know how we check things on the Internet and so on and so forth. I saw something about using bleach to counteract toenail fungus. I tried it for a couple months and saw no real results so I gave up.

But, it takes time for the toenails to grow out! So as I kept cutting off the old stuff I realized that the toenails that were sticking up at a 45° angle we’re not doing that anymore. Eventually those toenails and everything else started you return to normal.

The thing that YouTube videos failed to mention was that it takes time for toenails to grow out and whatever is messed up to begin with will be there for whatever long time it takes for the toenail to push that part of the toenail forward for you to cut it off.

Things have improved tremendously for me, maybe an 80% improvement or more. I’m thinking I may do a repeat of the bleach application just to see if I can improve things that remaining 20%. But I’m at the point now where it really doesn’t matter it’s just so much better than it was.

I’m just mentioning this in case anybody happens to have something similar going on. I am a believer that bleach works to control and kill toenail fungus as long as you have patience for the result to take place.

Actually I’m also a believer that medical care tends to follow the dollar and applying bleach to toenails, to kill the fungus and make things better, provides no monetary incentive for the healthcare people to advise one of this option. And no incentive to spend money doing a study either that will result in no profit when proven to be true.

My dad had toenail fungus for years. Finally about 3 years before he passed, I finally got him to see a doctor about it. The doc prescribed some pills and after a few months it was better, and within a year was completely gone.
I know because I had to trim his toenails for him, he couldn't do it due to a back injury.

So does this last paragraph apply to covid vaccine also?

Nope... My bet is that he will start to ask questions on Erectile Dysfunction, how to cure it, and does anyone has a penile implant. He leaves no stone unturned.
At least he was correct about the cause of toenail fungus. As for the use of the medication in pill form, most doctors will not prescribe it for long-term use, because it can cause kidney failure. It is only used for 30 days or less. There are a lot of medications that will cure a problem, but their side effects of them are so bad that they are only used in extreme cases.

If this is the opinion then perhaps you have been seeing the wrong doctors. Healthcare providers recommend what they know. Most Allopathic providers learn western medicine, not home remedies. They all have their place but one needs to know about them to make a recommendation for or against something.

I learned(myself ,after drs couldn't help me..) 8 years ago how to PREVENT 'athelete's feet fungus' or whatever they call it...
I take 2-3000 units(2-3 pills) of Vitamin D from October to March. It keeps the skin healthy, so no cracks means no bad bugs get IN ! Also us hand cream on the feet too...

Works good for athletes foot as well.
Also marketed as "Micatin"....have used it for years.
Usually only requires a small amount, with only two or three applications.

Well, I will dip my toe into this conversation. The two things I seen my grandparents use over the years was Vicks Vapor rub and baking soda.

Grandpa would rub the Vicks on his toes and said it took care of the fungus. Grandma didn't like the smell of Vicks, so she made a paste out baking soda.

They both would soak their feet in Epsom salt baths.

I would guess between those combinations, that it just about killed anything on their feet.

I know I have used the Epsom salt soaking for ingrown toenails and it does wonders.

They've got a bunch of new products out these days that claim to cure the fungus. I've got one nail that's messed up, fat and twisted. Never bothered to fix it, hasn't ever gotten any worse. I need big dog nail clippers to trim it, lol. Some day I'll get to it, I'm 50 now, maybe this is the year.

If this is so, why has there never been a study to evaluate using bleach to kill toenail fungus? Probably because proving it is would be of no value to anyone but people who it could help...if it actually works, which it seemed to in my case...

By the way, since brain surgeons were not interested in addressing toenail issues, I did consult with a podiatrist. She gave me some kind of liquid to apply to the toenails. It was like fingernail polish.

I tried it but saw no results so quit. BUT I may not have given it enough time...as the nails do need to grow out and be cut off, as the damage there will not disappear.

I had a coworker who was given a prescription taken orally to address the toe nail fungus issues. He believed it caused some health issues, not sure what they were.

Over the years I became adverse to saturating my body with anything that only addresses one small issue. To some degree anyway. My dentist prescribes an antibiotic after dental surgery, and I take it.

Anyway, I only started this thread because I thought it might be of interest to someone.

I did not post it in the parts/repairs forum and if there were no OFF TOPIC forum here at OTT it would not have been posted anywhere...

I recall when I first started having to deal with an elderly relative’s toenails because they could no longer reach them they were a bit out of control and quite thick. My initial comment was “(insert expletive of your choice if you’re prone to such) I should have brought the Dremel instead of clippers!” He responded, “That’s what I used until I couldn’t reach them any more.” Some anti-fungal cream and a few months helped quite a bit. He failed to recognize it was more than normal aging. Stuff to look forward to if I live that long… 🙄
