You could, but the real question is does your tractor have enough hydraulic pressure to operate the cylinder to split the wood. You also would want to evacuate all the oil from the piston so you don't contaminate the hydraulics on your tractor. It might just be better to bite the bullet and buy a new gasoline engine for the splitter.

27t splitter, so maybe 8-10 HP engine, even new, $150-$200 ??
Overall cheaper,easier and better than
buying new hoses..and idiot proof fittings...
time to setup/connect.disconnect evrytime
FUEL to run your tractor
tractor is literally tied to woodsplitter
probably a few more reasons
only 'good' reason to do it...
nobody but YOU can uses YOUR spltter...

What Jay said - for the time and money, buy a new engine! You will come out way ahead in the short and long run!

probably buy a 'clone' for half the price and given the low hours it'll be used, should work fine. I've used Princess Auto Honda 'clones' for decades, including commercially used motar mixer. No problems.

Pick up a Harbor Freight gas engine. I have a Honda 5 HP engine off of a power washer that's just barely broke in, but it's horizontal shaft. I can remember seeing a wood splitter with a vertical shaft engine.

My Troy Bilt has a vertical shaft with the pump attached to the bottom.

The bottom hydraulic hose is seen here coming from the pump.

I agree with buying a new engine for it as well, for all the reasons above, and also, why put unneeded wear and tear on an expensive tractor engine when you put it on a $300 throw away engine.

there's another 'minor' problem with couple to your tractor.....
EVERY time you disconnect, you'll LOSE hydraulic oil !
The splitter cylinder will be full(say 3 quarts ?),now your tractor is DOWN 3 quarts, THAT probably isn't good fo the tractor...

Absolutely. No need to disconnect the loader - just put a quick coupler on the loader power beyond line and use that to run the splitter the same way Kubota runs a backhoe. A hundred dollars will hook it up. I run mine on a L3901 @6.8 GPM just fine.

Why not even consider a HF engine?
Most folks have had good luck with them.
I was going to suggest the same thing... I haven't personally used one, but I know several people who have, and I've heard no complaints.

No, I can see the full pic, just not enough detail- looks like just a black box. Having never seen one like it before, I couldn't make out the muffler, air cleaner, starter pull, etc..
After seeing pics on the website, I got it now.
