mcmxi Looks like you have a nice {warm} setup now to remove snow. You can keep the snow up your way we have been lucky and only had about a inch so far and it was gone right away. I feel my MX-6000 is a little light in the rear even with three weights on each side. Don't want to add more weights and have them our past the tires. Probably will load the tires this spring. Don't want to mess with a weight box when I don't have the sprayer or mower on either.
Thought about putting weights on the inside? This is from FB. A guy has 10 weights from EA on his MX. 2 on inside and 3 outside of each wheel.

Kubota provides some guidelines for adding weight to the rear tires/wheels. They show 310lb as being the maximum added weight per wheel. The manual is for the cab and non-cab models but they don't make a distinction for each model.

I've definitely noticed an increase in traction with the wheel weights and cab when coming back up the lower driveway after running down with the snow blade.

That's a good idea. It would take some custom bolts to do that as the wheel centers only have one set of bolt holes on my MX-6000 to hold the weights on. We do run some inside weights on our bigger farm tractors but they are set up with two sets of holes in the wheel centers to bolt the weights to. One for the inside weights and one for the outside.

Here’s the other picture he posted. Says he welded square stock to the bolts. Not the best picture.

I was thinking some grade 8 all thread and clamp everything together through the square holes in wheel would work.

@hedgerow, do you have the cab model? Regardless, it might be a good idea to add ballast to the tires before heading down the rabbit hole of extra wheel weights. Perhaps that'll be enough and it'll be cheaper. Like I mentioned, I've noticed big difference with the cab, wheel weights and ballast rather than ballast alone.

I've thought about a rear ballast box and whether that's a better option compared to wheel weights which aren't needed when running a rotary cutter or other implements. I'm not sure that I want to be removing/installing wheel weights each year for summer/winter use. According to the dealership here they're a PITA to install.

Most of the hours on mind will be spend spot spraying. I did put a fair amount of hours on the MX with a seven foot rotary mower this summer. I don't want to mess with a ballast box as if the mower or sprayer isn't on I have my three point trailer mower on the tractor for moving trailers around the yard and shed and moving equipment in the shed. Normally I don't use the MX for heavy lifting with the loader as I have a 100 HP skid steer and a Cat track loader but sometimes both units are at other farms so I use the MX. I will probably just load the tires. Its just I got rid of fluid in tires on the farm years ago and went to iron. My MX does need some more weight in the tail.

I just stopped by for a cup of coffee. It's 1F outside, lots of snow and I'm having a blast moving snow around. This snow blade/blower combination is awesome! The cab gets really warm. I start out with the fan on 4 and have to keep lowering the speed and turning the heat down. :ROFLMAO: I bet it'll freeze my butt off in the summer!

I cut a lot of acreage this past spring/summer with the MX open station with only beet juice in the rear tires. Not once was I need of more traction running the RCR1884 (7ft) rotary cutter, even on my property which is very hilly. 4WD in some spots was more than enough, but for the most part 2WD worked just fine.

I've needed more traction with the MX open station moving rocks and moving dirt with the bucket.

A bit of an update on the new MX.

The oil dipstick is on the opposite side of the engine compared to the open station model. Interesting ... maybe not, but a quirk.

When I was at the dealership the day of delivery, I was given a Jensen JHD1630 head unit at no charge. The general manager claimed that he could install it in 2 minutes. Well, 10 minutes later he was still struggling and I was getting a little irritated watching him mess with my new tractor. When I was an engineering student many years ago I had a side business installing high end audio and alarm systems in cars and trucks so I really don't need anyone else's help. I asked if I could take a look and I could see that the screw at the rear of the head unit was interfering with a bracket and rubber grommet up in the headliner. I told the manager to let me take care of it.

A few days ago I ordered a Kenwood KMM-X704 digital media receiver from Crutchfield that arrived today. It's much shorter (depth) than the Jensen and will drop in without any issues. It has Bluetooth, a microphone, USB and auxilliarly ports on the faceplate as well as a USB cable at the rear but I won't use that. I'm not expecting anything great but it'll be good to have some music if I don't want to use the Isophone earplugs. I'll post a couple of photos once I have the head unit and microphone installed.

I managed to get the Kenwood receiver installed this morning. I was going to use the wiring harness adapter that the dealership provided (KUB1 REV. A), but when matching up wires noticed that there was no provision for 12V constant in the harness which is weird. I decided to cut off the factory connector in the MX and solder/heat shrink the Kenwood receiver connector to the factory wires. I also installed the microphone but might move it to a better location (closer) once the weather is nicer.

This Kenwood has a lot of functions so I'll need to read the owner's manual to figure it all out but I did blow/push snow off the driveway after installing the receiver and I can easily hear music over the sound of the engine and engine/blower. I'm pleased with the purchase and the installation.

As a follow up to the addition of a decent Kenwood head unit last year, I spent all of the time in the tractor this winter pushing or blowing snow around and wore a set of the ISOtunes LINK earmuffs listening to music on my phone. I started to wonder if it was a waste of money adding the Kenwood since I didn't use it at all.

Over the past couple of days I've spent quite a few hours in the tractor getting ready for spring/summer by removing the blower and snow blade, moving implements around, moving materials around etc., and with all the getting in and out of the cab, it's just not fun or practical to wear earmuffs. I've had the radio playing in the cab these past couple of days and now I can see the need for both systems. I might even upgrade the speakers this year.

So my conclusion is, if I'm going to be in the tractor for extended periods such as mowing, leveling the driveway, moving dirt around etc., then the LINK earmuffs are the ticket. If I'm getting in/out a lot or just doing a quick chore then the in cab audio system is best. Maybe this is obvious to many but it's only recently become obvious to me.

No, I only used the Isotunes PRO 2.0 earbuds with the open station. @Matt Ellerbee uses the earmuffs with his open station. He was the reason I bought the earmuffs and it was a good recommendation since they work well and I like them.

I have both, muffs and in ear. Muffs are far more comfortable to me for long periods. Haven’t used them in the Georgia summer yet.

My only minor complaint with the earmuffs is that I wish they had more or better padding on the support (for want of a better word) that connects both muffs. As someone who has limited padding/insulation on top, I find the hard rubber coating to be less than ideal. I guess I could wrap it with an old wash cloth or something, or maybe one of the those welding hood cotton wraps .... hmmm.

If I’m awake, I have a hat on. Just have to be sure to put the “button” in the middle of those rubber bars.

I’ve tried every size of the padded inserts on the in ear. They all hurt/get tender in different places. Guess my ear hole is oddly shaped? Lol. I still use them at work, just not for long periods.

Those hat buttons are often hard as nails. It would drive me nuts having anything pushing the button into my head. :LOL:
