I came upon a small metal lathe a while back and have played around with it a little bit. The more I play the more I learn.. right or wrong! I was able to shave down some strut mounted lift spacers, look just like wheel spacers but only 3 studs. I got the job done and perfectly even with one another. Saved me from having to buy smaller spacers for less lift as needed.

Not much to f-up here and its not a big bucks or irreplaceable part.
  1. Chuck it up on the lathe and turn the hub side counterbore.
  2. Re-chuck on the milling machine using the counterbore as the register.
  3. Key the bolt circle ( 6 on 170mm) into the readout and drill the holes for the lugs.
  4. Back to the lathe to turn the pilot for the rims, clean up the OD, and chamfer the edges.
Now if I could just find someplace to get the new wheel hardware at a reasonable price.....

I have a very nice 18" Cincinnati rotary table. But for something like this a 3 jaw chuck and DRO is way faster.

I have a little rotary table :rolleyes: Real nice for milling circles.

But one of the first things I did was put a 3 axis DRO on that mill and for something like this its a lot faster than using the rotary table.

Just key in the diameter and number of holes. The PCD function on it gives me the relative offsets to each hole as I move through the positions. All you have to do is keep zeroing the readout as you go down the list.

Here it is set up for drilling the 6 on 170 lug pattern. I need to crank the table x and y feeds to zero both of those numbers and I will be on hole number 1. Drill the hole, hit the the down arrow and it will give me the x and y offsets to hole number 2. Repeat until done with all six. I can have all siz done in less time than it would take to get the crane and setup the 300# rotary table.
