Yes, but what is the purpose a nuclear attack? It isnt to just blow stuff up. It is about command and control. From a strategic standpoint it is far more advantageous to disable all electronics/communications in a 2000 mile radius than to blow up 5 miles. It not about killing the most people, its about removing the ability to fight back, taking over key infrastructure.Fair enough, but one cannot ignore the huge amount of radioactive dust generated by a ground strike and the long term effects it can have on people. AND there also might be a huge number of casualties resulting from a ground strike.
An EMP detonation 1000 miles up it seems would produce very little physical damage to the surface under it. Actually, 1000 miles up seems pretty high. Was that even a reasonable estimate of the height at which an EMP attack would occur? My guess would have been a few hundred miles max, and maybe lower...
I have no way personally to compare the two. Just thinking out loud really.
