I love how people advocate for nuclear power when there is no known way to dispose of the waste safely. Things with half lives of over 100,000 years and you want to produce great quantities of it. This is not a wise move. Will need radio active credits instead of carbon credits.
LOL - there are plenty of known ways, it just isn't following the political science.

ANYTHING with that kind of reliability HAS to be really good for something. They just need to find a use for it and then it will be in demand. You just can't get that kind of reliability anymore.

You can carry/afford a whole lot of energy in a 5gal bucket of fuel about 695,000 Btu.

Back to the OP topic...I wonder if Kubota sent the electric tractor surveys to folks with smaller machines only? It might appeal most to BX owners...small lots maybe someone not using it for 6-8 hours at a time. I havent see anything from them but I have owned M62, M7060, L6060.
The survey said that it was directed at purchasers of under 30 HP tractors.

We used to make a lot of money selling coal to those countries. Obango ruined the lives of thousands of people in the coal industry.
Those countries are also moving away from coal. China just stated they will no longer finance new coal plants.

More expensive that NG but certainly not obsolete, absent government intervention.

I simply do not believe that the two most populous countries in the world, India and China would be building hundreds of new coal fired generating plants if coal was "obsolete."

Economics are making coal obsolete. Why would we use coal if natural gas is both cleaner and cheaper? And China announced a few months ago that they will no longer finance new coal plants. In the US coal plants are closing and no new ones are being built. In my state, the largest utility company made a statement that by converting the San Juan power plant to natural gas, they would save $10-15 million per year. Coal is obsolete.

Tell that to the province of BC, that has trains running 24/7 hauling coal for 3rd world export...
As for nukes, France ,DECADES ago figured out how to make the waste safe but the USA -France thing keeps the USA from using that tech.
As for safety, Cdn CANDU style nukes cannot 'meltdown',
'economical' is another matter. IF you look at ACTUAL costs and NOT include kickbacks, payouts, overcharges 'lost' materials,etc. then you'd have economical power. Heck, Ontario taxpayers have shelled out over 2.75 BILLION for an NG plant that was never built.

How come nobody mentions all the huge government incentives to the various oil and coal companies over the years? Everyone is bashing the support of alternative energy but have a blind eye to all the money given over the years to to the other energy companies. Each has it’s own sets of problems surviving, but if you are going to argue that one shouldn’t be supported then you better be ready to pull money away from all of them.

actually NO company, say after 10 years(startup ), should get ANY 'help' from the taxpayers.
Course if that was 'carved in stone' GM would no longer be here.

China has stated that they have stopped financing construction of coal plants in the third world. It will trend over time like the US: no new coal plants built and old ones closing.

Currently there are around 800 coal plants under construction or planned in China.

Many more in India.

Coal plants are being made economically unfeasible in the US by government, not by technology.

FWIW - the types of incentives given to oil and other fossil fuel companies are very different from the types given to "green"/renewable companies.

For example, an oil company receives incentives in the form of accelerated tax treatment. The oil company can write off (deduct the cost against profits) the cost of a well in a period of a few years versus the life of the well. The purpose of this treatment is to allow the oil company to recoup the well's cost faster, and this allows the oil company to then sink more wells. The the oil company sinks more wells, and this increased production benefits the oil company (more profits) and the consumer (lower oil prices). This approach is also revenue neutral for the government/tax payers. The oil company pays the same amount in taxes over the life of the well presuming a constant tax rate - less tax paid in the early years followed by more tax paid in the later years versus a level amount of tax paid during the well's life.

Electric cars and home solar systems are given very different incentives. The purchaser of an EV or home solar system receives a tax credit (a loss to the government and tax payers that is never recovered). The tax credit only benefits the purchaser and seller of the item. In terms of societal benefit, you would have to argue that having EVs and home solar systems reduce demand for oil and electricity, and then you have to claim that this reduction reduces the cost of oil and electricity. However, these arguments are flawed. Using a home solar system as the clearest example, a home solar system does not reduce the power company's need to build generation stations. The power company has to have enough generator capacity to meet demand 24/7/365 within seconds to avoid a grid failure (days or weeks to reset); and therefore, the power company has to build to full capacity regardless of any fickle source (rainy day for solar, calm day for wind and etc.). The "green industry" incentives are a direct transfer of money (tax payer dollars) to the buyers and sellers of EVS, home solar systems, wind mills and etc. with no direct societal benefit.

Not aware of any incentives to oil and coal companies other than depleation allowance, which is identical to depreciation of any asset available to any business.

No new nuclear plants being built in US either but in both cases the reasons are political rather than technological.

Political? When a utility company can save $10-15 million in annual operating costs for converting a plant from coal to natural gas, do you think they are following the politics or the bean counters? Coal isn’t the cheapest option anymore.
