Should we care?

I just read an article somewhere about some kind of AI that was developed using something from a frog. Which can reproduce on its own.

OK...guess that is possible. AND I actually fear that artificial intelligence could be a negative for the future of humanity.

BUT given that, with our limited lifetimes on the planet, should we worry about it?

I mean nothing significant will likely change in the next fifty years or so.

Wouldn't it be better to just worry about how the flowers are growing?

I kind of think so but have no strong opinion.

Kinda feel like I should be more concerned about smelling the fresh blossoms in the spring.

Hopefully I will still be here to enjoy that...LOL

Links would help
I agree. But surprisingly, I could not find the article I read to link to it.

AND it was just a couple clicks back. Believe it or not.

But even it it were fictional, which it wasn't, would that make a difference?

At this point I'd be more worried about the future of honey bees and pollination. Without food mankind doesn't have much of a future with artificial intelligence or the natural kind.

Creating something that can think on its own is dangerous....just look at what humans have done!

If it is biological and reproduces it is not AI.

There are fancy computer chips being developed now that will enable one to order food ,tickets and whatnot from an avatar. A robotic screen of sorts. Within the next five years you will start to see and possibly interact with them. This will be good for some businesses and not so good for those looking for entry level jobs. Read the latest commentary from Nvidia Corp. for starters. Change is inevitable. So far the benefits to mankind have been enormous.

Beat me to it. The changes in automotive industry alone are scary. There was a time when a slide rule and the talent to use it was a valued job skill. Then Texas Instruments marketed the TI-30. IBM introduced the IBM PC XT for people to have a computer at home. I have personally witnessed many operating systems and processors become obsolete, some of them lasting only a few short years, despite being good stuff. I've often said I wonder what people that saw the advances in technology for the 50 years in front of me thought about it. I'm 63 now, and I think I understand how whimsical that thought was. Younger generations don't want to know about 'the old days' and 'the hard way'. I fear they'll be very ill prepared to repeat it after one good EMP.

Except most humans cannot think their own...they need to be told what to think.

For the most part I would agree. However, we have a generation that does not know how to speak to a person or ignore their phone for 20 minutes.

I was interviewing a 20ish girl for a job the other day. She actually excused herself from the interview to look at her phone. When she returned I asked if everything was okay, she replied 'fine, just needed to check something'. I'm sure she was very confused when I excused myself from the interview and never returned.

She was probably checking the status of another potential interview ...or maybe her Tiktok page got some hits

Its hard. These kids grew up in the digital age, we grew up in a time where none of it existed. Our expectations are just different. That said I still agree our expectations are better for humankind. We need eye contact, we need to be able to talk to one another in person.

The ultimate question of the last 40 years......has the advent of the internet and digital world made us better as a species, or worse?
