Hydro fluid preferences

Not to start a dreaded oil war, but what brand is good to use. The filter on my backhoe blew out yesterday, and I noticed the fluid is a bit milky, which lead me to believe moisture built up even though it has never had water on it, not washing, nor in rain. Must just be condensation that built up over the years and never had a chance to boil out from use.

The local store near me has 3 brands, Lucas, Mobil Delvac and Shell Rotella HD. It's only a $2 difference in price between all 3.

The past 20 years I have used the Farm and Fleet brand for JD tractors in both, but they are out of stock of it

What type of filter WAS on the BACKHOE? That is a story about filters and oils in itself! This backhoe is using a separate pump OR hooked to the hydraulics of the B2410?

Your machine is an HST model I assume?

IF all the above is correct -hooked to the tractor's pump - then I would place KUBOTA Udt or S-UDT2 in that 20 year old machine!

I would NOT place the "meets kubota specifications" oils that are written on the back of the other brands.

If all you've ever used is aftermarket brand fluids then probably any of those would do.
In your shoes I'[d find the nearest source for Kubota SUDT2 hydraulic oil and Kubota filters.
Guaranteed to work with that machine.

I would use any of them. Kubota introduced Super UDT at about the same time your tractor was first made and it likely came filled with that. The older UDT was and still is an acceptable alternative to Super UDT and all of those oils are generic equivalents for UDT.

I see you are in Illinois and if it gets really cold there the Super UDT will be a better performer in an HST.

This is for the backhoe only. Has a separate pump and tank. What I THOUGHT was the correct replacement filter based on the original part number, which was superseded, and that filter part number cross referenced to an AC Delco PF26, was completely wrong The thread is much smaller than the one that came on it The original has no marking on it at all. I did find a correct filter, and of all places, the Fleet Farm I was just at has it on the fricking shelf. Would have saved me a lot of time and trouble had I known the superseded filter was incorrect.

When I bought the tractor back in 2002, the dealer provided John Deere fluid for it and said that will work just fine, so been using the same stuff for 20 years now for the B2410.

Anyway, I went to Fleet Farm, there is a somewhat new one near me and my first time shopping there. The place is HUGE and reminds me of what Farm and Fleet used to be. Plenty of farm good, as well as a whole bunch of other goodies. Shell Rotella HD has a rebate on it, so thats what I got. Will work fine for the backhoe. My 500 hour is coming up on the B2410 so will be doing a drain and filter and new Kubota filters on it soon, but will switch over to Kubota fluids, the HST is getting a little whiny now, might have water in it even though it sits in the barn too.

With this PIECE of information - use whatever oil fits your billfold - not to be specific now, damn near ANY hydraulic oil works to push a cylinder or two I thought this "might" be the case when I asked earlier if this was PTO driven or not.

I've been using non kubota oil for the backhoe I have that is similar to the OP's. PTO pump and has its own tank and is a closed system. Been almost 20 years now. No issues and nothing to worry about.

ONLY Kubota SUDT in my tractors though. Just makes sense for me all around.
