LOL I figured, but its going to be my first oil change on a tractor with only 400hrs.

Well............. I will take the bait here..........

you are in UTAH - betcha you will be using this in the cold weather? And I betcha it get a few degrees cold there too!

I would recommend Rotella 5w-40 Diesel for the crank case with a good ol Kubota filter......and then for the hydraulics - stay with S-UDT2 from Kubota dealer or online .. and use the Kubota filter too!

You must determine your oil weight by expected temperatures so 5W-40 is not unreasonable, especially if you're up a mountain. I'm in WA and use Shell synthetic (T6?) in 15W-40 with no issues. I stick with Kubota SUDT2 for the hydraulics and use Kubota filters all around.

If possible I would find out what the previous owner used and use that. With that said I have used Rotella out on my farm for forty years and never had a failure because of oil. Keeping it full of oil and changing it is going to kept your Kubota happy.

I don't believe T-6 comes in 15-40 only 5w-40. T5 semi synthetic is 15w-40 though. FWIW T-6 is my go to engine oil for anything not automotive (at least in my Toyota's) which call respectively for 0w-20 and a special 0w-16 for the newest of my "fleet" my 2020 RAV4 Hybrid. The other a 2011 Highlander with 3.5 V6 is happily humming away for close to 160k miles now on 0w-20.
Anyway my snowblower (little Honda HS621), my walk behind mower again a Honda with a GCV160 both also get treated to the same Rotella T-6.
Kubota Super UDT-2 in the trans of my tractor BTW

You trusted Kubota when you bought the tractor. Why not trust their R&D and use the fluids that they recommend??

There is no best oil but its recommended to outfit with 2 or 3 oil and air filters as well as the new engine damage preventative additive that was just invented.
Its mandated that it be run in all tractors or your tractor will be taken away as well as your farm or property.
Its claimed to prevent all engine damage and the slight chance that engine damage does occur the severity of damage will be less
If you choose not to run this preventative , youre a dummy and you wont be allowed to take your tractor to a dealer for service. If your tractor is already at a dealer for service iit will be removed and pushed off a cliff or set on fire so the engine damage doesnt effect other tractors.

The additive is called snake oil.

Seriously though..... a "best oil" thread? COME ON MAN!!!

The engine oil must be rated for Diesel engine.
