Wow, I wish my B3200 had a cab at times! Is the fabric waterproof? Does this seat have any type of suspension system to it? I have a BH76 backhoe on my B3200, so I'd need to have a suspension seat mount that would also work with the seat swivel mechanism.
Yes it's H2O proof. The suspension is still the OEM springs, just not enough space to mount any thing else.
I have a Woods BX70 BH on it and it has it's own seat so no issues with that. Yea the cab is great in the winter moving snow with heat, but main snow mover is the Can-am HD 10 Defender with 6' HYD plow.

This thread is very interesting to me. I'm 71 and have had lower back issues off and on for the last 15 years. My B2601 is a nice tractor and does everything I need but the ride while mowing is not pleasant. I have R4 tires with fluid in rears and I am convinced that is a major factor in the ride quality. I'm curious if the rest of you in this thread have R4s or the R14 or turf. I traded a B2710 with turf tires and the ride was significantly better. I'd be interested in seat suggestions that don't cost a small fortune!

2 back surgeries, cut 5 acres this afternoon on the B2601. R4's and filled tires. I'm pondering options as mowing is my main task. I know the L2501 seat is bad but I wonder if the extra weight, larger tires and stability of the L2501 would make for a smoother mowing experience.

Larger tires and extra weight will smooth things with a L2501 but no mmm. And it does need a different seat. I dislike my seat a great deal.

This fella changed his seat on the L2501, not sure if it would fit a LX.

Don't need MMM, pulling 5' finish mower. My only question about the L2501 is the power it has to pull a 5' mower up a slope in medium gear??? In grass that is cut weekly the B2601 struggles with the loader on, better but not great with loader off. Going to bed.......back hurts :(

Don't recall if you said you had filled tires. Filled tires substantially reduce compliance.

My personal theory is that a machine with given HP can cut a given amount of grass per hour. It can cut a wide swath slowly, or a narrow one fast. Everyone will say you can't run a big mower, but if you're going slow you can.

So, if the grass per hour is basically constant, then the difference between the two is how fast the tractor is going. And how fast the tractor is going is what hammers your back.

So my theory, unproven (since I have a MMM) is that you could go from your 5' RFM to a 6' or 7' RFM, and go 5/6 or 5/7 as fast. You'd mow the same grass and be more comfortable. I saw tractor time with Tim pulling a big batwing on an LX - it looked ridiculous and there were some connection issues, but it mowed. You could go real slow and still mow a lot of grass with a setup like that.

There are of course limits when it comes to lifting the mower, and weight of machine etc. But providing the machine will swing it, you'd perhaps solve some of your problem.

My other observations of things that matter are:
- filled tires (as noted above) make your tractor ride hard
- with unfilled tires, lowering pressure softens the ride - particularly when hitting bumps. You can go pretty soft when you're not using the loader
- size of tire makes a big difference to ability to ride over ditches/holes in particular (not so much for bumps). Bigger tractor, or tractor with bigger wheels (I think the LX can be optioned with bigger wheels if you're not using MMM)
- speed of course
- seat is kind of a patch over things if your machine is sized to be bumpy. But that's how trucks with air ride work too - so no shame in using a seat to patch over a sub-optimal machine

I'm always tempted by machines like an F-series. I hear they mow like a demon, and ride reasonably well. People say zero turns ride well, but my understanding is that you sit right on top of the wheels (where a tractor you sort of sit between them, so a bit more pitching v's up/down), and the wheels are usually smaller than tractor wheels. I don't see how they can ride smoother at a machine level. However, many of them seem to have really nice seats, so that may be part of the answer.

What does all that mean? No idea. Just thoughts. Probably means the best answer is a flash seat on a machine that's reasonably well sized, plus not filling your tires and working tire pressures. So far as possible get a bigger mower rather than a smaller one, allowing you to go slower for any given acres/hour mowed.

Probably getting a machine big enough to have materially larger wheels is impractical for domestic mowing - I'm not sure the steps from B to LX to L are that big. MX, however......

I’ve poked around to find an alternative seat for a 2601 and the problem I can’t get past is there ain’t enough room for anything better. otherwise I kinda like the little tractor.
Does anybody know what the seats are like on competitors same size tractors?
JD provides some pretty nice seats. My NH mini-bucket seat was more comfortable. Heck, my grandfathers 1920 Massy Harris cast iron seat mounted on a piece of spring steel was more comfortable than the K seats.

I'd much rather mow with my Toro Z-Master commercial mower with a suspension seat and isolators than my B3200 all because of the seat. It really helps take the hard hits off the operator. Look at the Toro My Ride suspension platform for even more operator comfort.

Hi folks,

I got my LX a month of so ago. It’s the SU model without the suspension seat.
I bush hogged about 8 acres yesterday over 4 hours. My back is killing me today.
Is the best thing to do just to go slower? I was looking at Grammer seats, and they’re up near $1000. Don’t really want to spend that much money, but I also don’t want my back to hurt when using the tractor for long periods of time.
I just Have to ask, is it definitely the seat? Or is it from turning around and checking your Bush hog? My back is messed up too and any amount of 3pt. Work leaves me sore for the rest of the week.

I have this problem as well. It's not so easy to twist around and see what you're doing. I am in process to try to solve this. I have a cab model (it's orange but not a Kubota) and I am adding a 9" high resolution color screen and rear mounted camera. I made a mount for the screen that places it up in the top right area near the windshield. I am just debating the best location for the camera (and wire routing). The idea is to use the screen to watch what's going on behind me and minimize the back twisting. I'll post some pics when I get this done.

Turning around is certainly part of it, but I can tell you that the impact of hitting a divot or mole tunnel is transferred directly from the machine, through the seat, right in to my spine. As noted above, the slower you go the less "impactful" it is, but you really trade time for speed mowing in Low vs Medium. Time vs pain... lol. My neighbor with the same size yard (but a lot less slop) finishes his yard in half the time I do with his Zero Turn. grrrrrr

Just this past week I sat on LX2610 and it wasn't even in the ballpark comfort wise of a Ferris zero turn I sat on.
I absolutely won't mow unless I'm on my Ferris. Broke my back years ago and mowing was a literal pain in the ... well, back. Now I mow in half the time with none of the back pain. A whole lot cheaper than Dr bills and surgery.

I usually mow with my TG1860--MUCH MUCH more comfortable than my nearly new BX because of it's dual suspension setup....disappointing, I wanted to mow with the BX but hey, that's life.

What I did was:

-Mow a little slower than what the BX is capable of.
-Air down the turf tires slightly. (I don't yet own a FEL so popping a tire off a rim is not a concern, and I am only talking a couple psi from recommended)
-sit on a large air bladder. This is the inside bladder from a very large (thigh) blood pressure cuff.

Overall I think the blood pressure cuff bladder makes the most difference. I put one INSIDE the seat on my Harley and found that barely any pressure at all is best. Like, don't pump it up like a balloon.
I have one on my chair in my home office too....I just inserted it into one of those cushions you gets for your automobiles seat or office chair. It lays flat unless inflated, so you don't even know it's there.

I work in the medical field, so find these used ones from time to time, but I am sure if you looked on Amazon.ca or ebay you could find one. You want one that's the "1-tube" variety if possible and with just the bladder, bulb and valve. You don't really need the cuff (outer material) You don't need a gauge or 2-tube...unless that's all you can find.

We use them as lumbar supports in our car and as mentioned, to change hip/back geometry on long trips on the Harley.

On the BX this lessens the hammering a rough yard gives me when mowing. I only need to use it when mowing.

I've never had a Grammer or other suspension seat, but the bladder works at all angles. Front/back side/side, whereas my UNDERSTANDING is the spring suspension and air(?) seats only really work front to back or up/down <I stand to be corrected on that>

Good luck.

Ferris ISX3300 and Scag Turf Tiger II with 72" decks are what I'm looking at. I think the Scag is probably a better all around mower but I'm leaning toward to the Ferris. Goodness gracious the Ferris is comfortable. $15k either way give or take. Or sell the B2601, add $15k to that amount could put me into something like a L3560. Much heavier tractor, bigger tires, air ride seat yada yada pulling a larger finish mower. I've just about made it through this mowing season and will probably wait until next year to do something. Not sure what the best answer is but the B2601.....as much as I love it for everything else........ain't the answer for mowing 4 to 5 acres a week!

I have an lx2610 and I spend a lot of time in the seat. I’m a big guy, 6’3” and 250#. My back hasn’t bothered me from long seat times clearing land, moving logs, brush hogging...

My seat has a dial for the weight of the occupant. So you can adjust it to your weight.

The seat also has arm rests which are great.

If you can find an LX seat, go for it. I’m very happy with it.

I have a John Deere 316 and replaced the stock seat, which only uses springs, with a K&M Grammar Air Suspension seat with 12V compressor. However, because of the gas fill spout, the seat could only go so far back and although it was very comfortable for my 3 hour cutting, it was hard to get in and out of.

Because of hip problems, I just got a Kubota BX1870. The stock seat is OK, but I didn’t want to waste the $1000 I paid for the. Grammar seat, so yesterday I switched it to the Kubota.

I am not going to say it was easy; it‘s about a 10 hour job, but if you get an air suspension seat, you will not regret it.

The Grammar seat required me to fabricate some parts and run wiring, but it fits perfectly in the space of the OEM seat and allows the same leg room.

My Grammar seat with air suspension allows lumbar support, goes up/down, front/back and the back of the seat can move towards the rider. The OEM Kubota seat leans back pretty far and if I leaned back, it was just too much of a slouched position. Uncomfortable, in that aspect.

I tell you fellas, we shouldn't have to buy a 1000.00 seat for a new tractor, I wish these stingy tractor makers would put a good suspension seat on to start with.
The tractors have no suspension it would seem intelligent to make a nice seat for them.
Did I say intelligent, obviously they don't give a dam about our comfort.
I love my Kubota B2620, but agree Kubota needs to wake up.

My land is bumpy. Does filling the rear tires with liquid make the ride better or worse on bumpy land?
