Yes I vaguely remember him starting it….when we should have been out of there after the targeted attacks. Nation building in this part of the world is a ridiculous notion.
The good news is it kept the terrorists focused on our troops there, and not CONUS. That is certainly worth something, but if we could have done that with a security force only it would have been better than trying to convert them to a democracy.
Now there are younger adults there in their 20s that have grown up in a country that is more free and they aren’t having the archaic Islamic rule. We will see how strong their resolve is.
Most of the US Servicemen deaths in Afghanistan happened under his successor. It’s not even close. We probably wouldn’t have been there at all if his predecessor had been doing his job instead of an intern.
