I've had a PJ 16ft dump trailer for a couple of years now and a few months ago asked the local PJ dealer to get me price on a single axle 10'x5' dump trailer. They wanted 40% down to place an order so I passed on that but still wanted a single axle dump trailer to pull behind the MX as well as make trips to the dump. I have a 10'x5' aluminum trailer which has been great the past six years or so but it's a pain to unload at the dump.

I was looking at the dealer's website yesterday afternoon and noticed they had two Southland 10'x5' dump trailers which are made in Canada and which I'd never heard of. I couldn't find any information on Southland's website so I called the dealer only to be told that they'd both sold that day. However, if I was interested they had just received a PJ 10'x5' dump trailer. Well duh!! I got a cashier's check this morning and headed over to claim my prize. The final cost was less than I was quoted a few months ago so that was good. I also picked up six PJ stake pocket D rings which are really slick and two remote control units for the dump mechanisms for both trailers. Hopefully they're worth it.

It's much more efficient to dump dirt into a trailer and haul as needed as opposed to back and forth with the tractor. That's my thinking on this and I'll put it to the test soon enough when I start moving dirt for the new driveway and shipping containers.

By the way, the small dump trailer weighs about 2,000 lb empty compared to the big one that is over 5,000 lb empty ... so I'm way more comfortable with the idea of towing the smaller one behind the MX. It'll be extremely useful for various projects on the property as well as general dump trip use.

Very nice! I’m going to need something like this in the next few years for not only around town but to make building my “causeway” through a wet strip of land into the woods a lot more efficient

About 3,400 lb according to PJ. 5,200 lb is the max rated single axle available on this model. I wanted single axle because the local landfill allows three free dumps per year for single axle trailers only. Since I also have the big dump trailer I'll use that when the small one is not practical.

This trailer holds 2.8 cu.yd. which for gravel or sand would exceed the weight rating by a significant margin. I'll need to look up the bucket volume for the MX and make sure I'm not dumping too much dirt into the trailer prior to pulling it to another location on the property.

I like the roll up cover too. I'm always messing around with tarps when I haul the aluminium trailer to the dump. This will be a lot easier.

I also like that the trailer has true 10'x5' interior dimensions. Here are a few more photos. Notice that there's no provision for ramps although they are an option on these trailers. All in all a well designed and well built trailer with lots of quality parts.

Interestingly, the same 3"x30" cylinder is used on all variations of this model i.e. up to 8,050 lb load capacity.

I like the roll up cover mounted on the front of the box. Mine is mounted on top the box, and as a cover it works great there, but I've had a couple times when I wanted to load from the front corner and the extra height complicated things. Not a big problem, more of an irritation that requires a little more thought.
Maybe I'll move mine.

That's a nice trailer you have. Yeah, we often discover things after a while that weren't obvious initially, such as how easy it is to bash my shins on a "step" on my aluminum trailer. I've done it so many times and no doubt will do it again. I like the steel box cover that protects your tarp.

I used the new PJ dump trailer for the first time this evening and it's just perfect behind the MX. My neighbor called and told me that he had some camp fire wood at the bottom of his driveway if I wanted it. I got to try out the overly complicated 3-point "limiter" with the quick hitch and trailer and it worked great but I'm still going to replace the solid link with a chain (thanks to whoever suggested that).

It's probably 1/2 a mile from my garage to the bottom of my neighbor's drive and this was the first time taking the MX on the road and it's fast, even pulling a 2,000 lb trailer. I love this tractor, and the trailer is sweet too!

I picked up a nice little dump trailer with drop-down sides—super easy to load and unload and still light enough to move around with my Kubota, but refuse to go downhill with much of a load.

It's what happens when I start welding and cutting without a clear idea of what I'm trying to build 😂. @bmblank was the member that suggested replacing the solid link from the drawbar to the receiver with a chain that only limits upward movement and allows the 3-point to drop so that the ball can get under the coupler on the trailer. I'm going to look into that shortly.

That's an awesome trailer. Do both long sides drop down or only the right side? Sure makes loading pallets in from the side a possibility. Very cool.

Actually both long sides do go down. Works out great for what I use it for. Had two pallets of pellet lime loaded in earlier this year that way. It’s a 10k trailer.

That's even better. Do the sides latch in the down position such that you could head down the road with a load on the trailer that's wider than the trailer? Either way that's a very functional trailer. I like the tandem axle but wanted a single axle to compliment the tandem axle 16' dump trailer I already have.

I got remotes for both of my trailers but haven't hooked them up yet. It looks like a simple plug and play kit and it'll be useful to not have to run the cable over the back of the tractor or up to the cab of my truck when I need to raise the bed up.

Nope, they just flap around once I drop the sides down—there isn’t any way to latch ‘em in the down position.

OK. With your tandem axles you can fill up that trailer with gravel but I can't do that with the single axle even though it's tempting. I have to say, if I'm going to sell a trailer it'll be the 16' tandem dump before any of the others because the 5'x10' trailers are so practical and useful around the property. The big trailer is BIG which is great for hauling 7,500 lb of firewood in one trip but it's not as all-around useful as the small dump. Either way, I'm lucky to have the four trailers and I know it.

I hear ya—I got rid of this 7x16 dump because it was just too big for what I needed.
That looks like my PJ 7'x16' sans the expanded steel panels. The last time I used my big PJ was about a year ago to move a yurt for a friend, but I'll be picking up firewood soon and tearing down a deck at the house so it'll do some more work this year.
