We just recently moved closer to the coast and now must prepare for hurricanes. Since, there are so many helpful and knowledgable folks on this forum i thought I would throw out this question.

I bought a Champion generator rated for 10k watts up to 11,500 starting watts.. The house we bought has a transfer switch where I can run the power through my main panel. my question is where can I buy a cord that will connect my generator to the transfer switch? The ones I found on line and at big box stores are rated up to 7500 watts

For something that size or bigger it’s probably either buy the appropriate plugs and correct wire size for your length of run and make up a cord yourself or get a local electrician to make up a cord. I had the electrician make the cord for my 16kW generator when he installed the transfer switch. He was able to source materials for less than I could so cost to have him do it was about the same as it would have been for me to do it myself.

You'll need to know the NEMA # of the plug on your gen set and the total amps. Same on the transfer switch, they will need to be the same size. Then find the wire size you'll need to size up the cord and then buy what you need.

I have 10' of Coleman Cable 4-4 SEOW 600V P-241-3-MSHA coming out of the transfer switch with a NEMA 14-60P 60A plug on it to plug into the generator's receptacle. My generator is a 13,500 watt.

Search online, there are many sources if you want to go that route. Getting one made up may be cheaper. Here is one place.
