My wife mentioned the other day that I have over 5000 tractor hours behind me now. I hadn't realized it at the time I was doing the 600hr PM on my B2650. I figure that is a lot of hours for a guy that has no need for a tractor and a "day gig" to boot.

I bought a New Holland 1720 in 1996 and put just over 4400 hours on it before going to the Kubota. I now have over 600hrs on the Kubota.

4400+ hours on the NH and never broke a thing (hoses included). Unfortunately, I can't say that about the new Kubota, but all in all the Kubota has been a good machine. I am pretty sure I have broken in some way, every single attachment I have at one point or another.

When I bought the NH I was a kid still living at home in a nice neighborhood and really had no use for a tractor, I just wanted one. My father thought I was crazy. I put a little AD in the local paper and started jobbing with it. I am still impressed at how reliable that tractor was considering it was my "learner" and I am the first guy with his hands up when asked "who wants to go fast?"

Now I see hours listed on used machines and really wonder.

That NH in 4400 hours of WORK never broke once and I know it is still being used a town over today. With less than 20 hours on my Kubota, the top curl piston mount had bent out on the loader frame to the point of needing repair. The OEM 3rd function on the Kubota has had two faulty joystick handles (after the second, I changed brands on the joystick). A cut radiator hose (cut by the machine, not some outside force). This was with less than 200 hours on it.

Honestly, if I had a choice between my old NH with 4400 hours on it and another NH with 2200 hours on it by someone I didn't know, I would take the one with 4400hrs.

A tractor that sits and does nothing for months on end can be a real gamble as well.

Sometimes it is really hard to tell the difference between work and abuse. One thing I can tell over the years of looking is "impact" tends to be noticeable. Look at my bucket and the machine looks worn out. Look at the hood and you will see yourself looking back. Even at 4400 hours the hood on my old tractor still shined and I had actually rebuilt the bucket at that point. (BTW - for any newbies out there - YOUR HOOD IS NOT A WEAR ITEM - LOL.)

I guess what I am trying to say is you can go years (actually decades) working a machine without wearing it out. You can also take delivery on a brand new machine and proceed to ram a stump with it for 20 hours and ruin the machine just-like-that. Think about that when you see the hours.

Me on my NH circa 1999

GOOD TIMES! I had the roof, lights and the truckers mirror even then.

awesome. I'm a little bit surprised that you didn't go with a larger Kubota instead of the B2650 for the type of work you do.

I was this close >< to buying a 3350 (I dodged that bullet).

Due to the number of septic systems and lawns I work on the B2650 is the perfect size. I really need two tractors - lol. The B2650 and a larger cabbed model for the roads and field work.

LOL the beard is a lot longer now and matches the snow in the picture!

I was at a family wedding recently and my 3 older brothers all still have mostly brown hair. My cousin asked "what happened to you?" reply - "I had all the fun", and I still do.

Even after all these years, I hate to say this but the family parties still don't start until the wife and I get there.

thats whats nice about the B series / LX size. It can get a huge field done, and still fit in a suburb if needed. I think L2501 just barely starts to grow out of suburban work...

long live the epic beard!

OH! You said tractor hours!

Got me thinking.

I have over 650,000 human operating hours behind me with nearly no mechanical failures to date! Other than operator caused...LOL.

Puts tractor hours a bit into perspective...

Edit: Well I guess sleep and rest time should be subtracted from that number, but still...

My chassis has just a tad over 460,000 trouble free hours so far. :)

that’s exactly why I went with the LX. I can actually fit it places around the house and garden, but still get a serious amount of work done.

Congratulations! So that's 200 hours per year, 16.7 hours per month or 3.8 hours per week. I can easily put in 4 hours a week in the spring, summer and fall months, and if there's a lot of snow over the winter I could possibly approach or exceed those numbers too. I've thought about putting an add on Craiglist to cut fields and do other tractor related tasks, maybe even snow removal around me. Anything that will allow me to justify a second tractor! 😂

My pickup truck hour meter said I averaged 1000 hours every 60,000km.

Just think, you've sat on a tractor for the equivalent of 300,000km! That's about 7x around the earth.

Now if you are like me and think your OEM seats suck, you might be asking yourself why your tractor doesn't have better seats or why haven't I changed them yet....

Now I have never given the seat a second thought. It was much harder on the old NH - or my back side is now softer than it used to be - hmmmmmmm.

On the B2650 I am not sure if there would be room for a nicer seat.

seat on B2601 is awful. I made the mistake of sitting on an LX and it felt like a throne :p

How interchangeable are Kubota seats? My dealer mentioned that an L works fine on an MX but I think he might be trying to make my MX as nice as possible so that he can buy it when I trade it in for the cabbed model. 😂

I think the MX seat is better than my BX seat was but it might be due to the better ride of the longer wheelbase, bigger wheels/tires and wider stance. Hard to make an apples to apples comparison.

I don't think there is room to swap the kubota seat from the LX to B. Aftermarket prob do-able, and they make some nice aftermarket seats. I agree, seat on B is marginally better than BX but they are very similar. Prob a ton more choices when you are in an L, MX ect because more space
