I have a B2400HD Kubota with a 3 point hitch backhoe on the back. The propeller shaft coupling near the HST pump (shaft from clutch to HST pump) or the shaft itself broke, so I'm trying to load the tractor on a trailer to take it in to get fixed using a come along to pull it on. Looking at the tracks it's made the rear wheels were turning at first, but then they locked up so it's just dragging them across the ground. I've dismounted the backhoe and the PTO turns freely. It's in 2 wheel drive currently. The brakes are off. I've got both rear wheels of the ground and neither will turn at all. I'm stumped! Any one have an idea what's going on?

Does putting you HST Range Selector in Neutral free up the rear end?

I can roll mine in Neutral.

No, it doesn't make any difference if the range selector is in gear or in neutral. It was in neutral the whole time. But I've tried playing with it and it didn't make any difference.

Yeah - figured probably, but wanted mention it just in case.....

Can you get at the prop shaft from underneath? I'm not of much help, but wondering if it could be removed to stop the binding. Not good to drag it.

Check a parts diagram to see how it hooks together. Maybe a roll pin or two might free it up to take out.

Maybe you can get a wrecker to loan or rent the wheel dolly to get it onto (and off?) your trailer? I would not be on the dolly while on the trailer and transporting.

If you are on concrete you might be able to use car wheel dollies from harbor freight.

Sounds like there are broken parts inside that have gotten into the gears, blocking them from turning. Avoid causing more damage - put something under it (couple floor jacks - or even some sand) so it can slide along without forcing the tires to turn.

Thanks for the suggestions. Was able to get it loaded with some car dollies and a come along.
Glad you got it loaded and thanks for posting.

I never considered there might be a drive shaft between the engine/clutch and the transmission (HST pump) on my B2910. Figured it would just be a direct connection via a splined shaft like in the cars I used to play with as a teenager. I now have a reason to take a closer look at my WSM and learn something!
