Land Pride RCR 1860

Just purchased my first tractor, a Kubota L2501. I also have a Land Pride RCR1860. I have been told to just take the rear plate off the cutter but I also see you can get rubber or chain guards. I like the chain idea better but for $160+ that seems steep. Do you really need it? I will be well away from buildings etc when using the cutter. Thanks for any thoughts.

Not meant to hijack your thread but I've had a similar question, what does the chain improve? Does it just improve the cutters ability to discharge the cut debris?

Hijack away! I know opening up the back end helps with discharging debris and it will clump up if closed like it comes from the factory. Just don’t know if it is worth the money to put those chains on.

I can tell you that I have zero clumping with chains on the rear. YMMV. I didn’t buy chains for the front since my main purpose was to improve grass spreading. Neil Messicks mentioned it in one of his youtube videos.

I have not altered my RCR1860, and it has performed very well. I am reclaiming a small pasture, and the first cut did not produce clumps. Of course, had the grass been higher and thicker it might have, but I would think that high thick grass cut low will produce clumps no matter what.

You should try it as is - you may not need to spend any additional money (I know - heresy).
